Comment: We are purchasing a house from my parents. It was built in 1927 but in the early 70s, right before my parents bought it, the previous owners added popcorn ceilings to most of the downstairs. The walls in the original portion of the house are plaster...there is also a 1 room addition that has popcorn ceilings, built in 1979, that has drywall walls. I do not know what is under the popcorn ceilings in the original portion of the house - plaster I assume. I also assume the popcorn ceilings contain asbestos because of the date that were put in, but we haven't had them tested. <br />We are moving in late June. The house will be empty for all of June and we already are having the original hardwood refinished. If we decide to have the ceilings scraped that would best be done before the floors, so maybe early June.
