Comment: I have renovated the interior of my 1400 square 1907 shotgun home, but the exterior is in bad shape. The home is raised and the front support beam / sill is rotted due to an apparent lack of flashing and improper slop on the front porch. Also, the pillars at the front of the home between the porch and roof are too slender and ugly. Additionally around the porch area, the front steps are about to fall apart. It is likely that the masonry porch and wooden steps and pillars will need to be rebuilt with proper slope and flashing as the front support beam is replaced. Continuing around the home, much of the 3 inch lap wood siding is rotting (as well as some 15 inch siding on the front) and needs to be removed and replaced. There are other misc. issues with the exterior carpentry, like missing / rotted window trim, siding that has not been caulked or edged (trimmed out) properly, rotted shutters, and possibly ineffectively installed gutters.
