The fireplace is in the basement of this 3 floor unit, and was Manufactured by Martin Stamping & Stove Co. , P.O. Box 1527, Huntsville, Alabama. The Model Number is BW3645 and Serial Number is B384647. I Removed the glass door/surround (missing some inside insulation), and slid out blower unit, and unbolted side pieces. A lot of ashes (had turned to dirt) between side metal panels and sidewall, and under blower 'grate'.. Vacuumed all and now can see a lot of cracks on bottom floorbrick and back wall brick. Also metal side panels are bent. There is a gap between floorbrick and side of fireplace and I don't know if this is normal or needs to be filled. I don't think it had ever been cleaned out.. Comment: I am looking at a home for purchase. I would like the gas logs in the fireplace tested and inspected. There seems to be an unusual amount of black soot on top of the gas logs.... which makes me think a repair is warranted. Also, since I am not the owner of the home, i'm not authorized to test the gas logs. I want a specialist. Also, the chimney requires some brickwork and I may be able to offer this business along with the gas log repairs. Please call xxxx xxxx at xxxxxxxxxxxx

Comment: Good afternoon. My home has a pre-fab, steel fireplace. I would like to add natural gas fired logs to this fireplace. However, the firebrick lining shows a lot of wear and I am not sure if it is safe. I would like to know (1) is it safe and (2) if it is not safe, can it be repaired. Thank you Rich

Comment: I want to have gas logs removed and gas line capped off, then I want to prepare for use with wood fires. Unfortunately, the flue I think is damaged or not exactly working. I would also like the actual chimney cleaned and inspected in preparation for wood fires.
