Russ and his crew installed a quartz epoxy coating on our garage floor. From other reviews, I see Russ is prone to shifting blame for negative comments to his customer, so I’ll try to be concise. First, Russ was personable and his crew completed the work in a timely and professional manner. YES, he gave us a great deal on the price, urging us to go with the top of the line product. And YES, there were issues - the floor coating didn’t dry, even after 4 days. YES, he came back to correct that issue. But, after his last visit there were numerous dark spots on the floor and an area where mulch had blown in and stuck in the surface (through a door not left open us). When I asked about correcting this, he said I could get xylene and clean it up. I said I wasn’t willing to make this a ‘do it yourself’ job. Russ responded that he gave us a great price (true, but still not inexpensive) and although we are quite far from his office, he didn’t impose his usual surcharge for distance (which was never mentioned). OK – but is it really a great deal if the end product has spots and imbedded mulch? So after consideration, I said I’d do the cleanup myself with xylene, but wanted his assurance that it wouldn’t ruin the finish on the floor. At that point he more or less said I should suck it up and leave it alone and remember that it’s just a garage floor that will become marked with use. True, but I thought one of the selling points of epoxy floors was durability and ease of cleaning and I guess I expected that at least initially we would have a great looking unmarked floor. We agreed to disagree but I told him I wouldn’t be writing a five star review; he then accused me of trying to ruin his business. We have an expensive garage floor marred by spots and imbedded mulch and I’m unhappy with it. He’ll probably respond, shifting the blame to me. You be the judge.
Response by American Restoration Services: Our top of the line floor requires six trips to the to the customers residence to complete the job. One day of preparation and dustless shot blasting and five days of coating with with anywhere from 12 to 20 hours between applications. This customer lived back in the woods in a beauttiful home on a hill and the job had to be done in windy conditions all that week with all doors closed. At some point when we were not there while the floor was drying someone opened the side door or the door blew open and some leaves and some mulch got on to the floor. When our guys arrived for another application they removed several leaves that stuck and embedded themselves down into the coating. When the leaves were removed they left a few small marks on the floor about as big as a dime that were hard to notice unless you were looking for them. The guys continued top coating the floor because they didn't think it was an issue and the homeowner did not express a concern or probably did not see the small marks until the floor was coated 2 more times encapsulating the marks. We traveled 80 miles round trip with 2 vehicles 7 times. (over 1000 Miles) The seventh trip was to coat the floor again because the final coat was taking a long time to cure because there was no air flow over the floor. This additional coat cost over 500 in material and almost 100 mile trip. (The material would have eventually dried but the customer was anxious to get back the use of the garage to park her BMW). We explained to the customer that in order to remove the marks we would have to sand off the coating which would have required 2 more trips and 2 more applications one epoxy and one urethane. The floor was gorgeous but it is a garage and we were not willing to disturb the seamless coating. Any reasonable person would never even give it a second thought. We gave this customer a great deal and really went out of our way for him. The owner or the house was a really successful nice older gentleman and understood the problem but the younger girlfriend was a nightmare and very difficult to deal with. We do our best as usual. Between us I think she was the one who opened the door! .

The two young workers did an excellent job replacing the 2 lintels , matching the mortar & tuck pointing. The only complaints were that it took about three weeks to receive the corrected itemized receipt. Also, the spacing of top chimney bricks were spaced further apart than the rest of the chimney bricks.
Response by American Restoration Services: Additional cost was for additional work not included in the original contract. Customer did not have to have the additional work done which was replacing brick where the faces had broken off. This house was a rental property in poor condition with many settlement cracks rusted lintels and a chimney that was ready to fall. I sent 2 guys there for a day and a half to do the additional work. We reduced the size of the chimney hauled away about 100 brick, built a proper 2 course brick drip edge around the top of the chimney for no additional charge. When the job was completed we walked her around the property with her she was thrilled with the job and thanked us for the additional work. We matched the mortar perfectly on this house but since her chimney joints were extremely dirty the mortar stood out from the black joints dirty joints. She did not want to spend any additional money to clean the chimney since this was a rental property. We are literally talking about 3 bricks on the chimney that you can't even see from anywhere on the street. This was a very small job and we never received a complaint from her and three weeks lated she writes a review. We have sent her a detailed invoice for the work now 3 times but it is never detailed enough for her. This is someone you will never please and thinks $650.00 is a million dollars. The work we do is difficult but some people will never appreciate what we do. I like to see her on top of a 32 ft ladder with a 50 lb. chipping hammer in her hand removing brick from a chimney. I guarantee she would have a different perspective.

poor quality work - did not follow up to complaints
Response by American Restoration Services: We do not know who this person is and have no record of doing any work for her. We have no record of doing any floor coating for this customer since all floor coatings have warranties and material for any repair kept in stock for any future repairs that may become necessary. We have received no phone calls from this customer or any written correspondence this year. We follow up complaints and will be happy and do our best to resolve any problem. We contacted home advisor about this issue and have yet to receive a response. We believe this work has been done by another company or someone intentionally trying to hurt our good 40 year reputation in the Pgh. Market.

The contractor was great, good customer service, willing to do extra for no add on price. However the workers were young and needed to be reminded of things they missed. Job not completed as 1 worker left to get a tool and never came back. Will call contractor to see if he will come back. I had to clean up all the old mortor around the house.
Response by American Restoration Services: ARS sent 2 men to find a round down spout and spent a half day doing this. This was done as a favor including the installation. The only mortar left to clean up was about a cup full left in the gutter. This was removed when we returned to install the downspout at no charge. The homeowner wanted an additional bracket put on the downspout that her son was going to take care of because we broke our only drill bit. We never said we were going to come back. This work was perfect as usual and looked great. This should be a 5 star rating without a doubt. It's funny some people think because they hire you, you are obligated to do additional work not included in the agreement. Instead of showing a little appreciation they have to find some kind of fault. We also did other extra work for this customer and if you read the review I think that fact is obvious. She was a nice person and a great customer but human nature is sometimes hard to understand.
