They lack communication and professionalism. When the workers arrived at the house there was no forewarning of them coming. So workers got there around 7 am with no dumpster and no materials to build the deck. It took them about an hour to demo the deck and shortly after the dumpster and supplies did arrive. Things went good for the rest of that day and the next. Then for the next few days the didn't show up, despite telling me the day before that they would show up. When they showed up again instead of 5 workers there would be one or two workers that didn't know what needed to be completed so they would leave things undone and when I asked about it they would tell me "I wasn't told to do that." After a while they came for the final payment, even though a quick look suggests that they weren't near done. There was trimming that still wasn't done, garbage and extra materials laying around, plus a crooked post holding up the deck. We discussed things and they agreed to fix all the flaws I pointed out and actually clean up when they were done. I did another inspection when they said everything was done and everything was addressed . A few more things I feel I should mention. The workers went into the garage and took tools to use without returning them at the end of the day. I noticed this a couple days in when I was looking for a shovel and had to look under a tarp to find it. Also, they didn't put trim around all the postings underneath like it said in the contract. This was because they poured footings without saying anything until after they poured them. They said it cost $400 to pour a little bit of cement. To get the deck done and them to finally leave, we made an out of contract agreement to not wrap to of the posts that were suppose to be wrapped. So what should have taken 3-4 day turned into a 3 week nightmare.
Response by Connecticut Deck Pros, LLC: CT Deck Pros maintains it's professionalism throughout all of our projects, both from a construction standpoint and from a communication point of view. Per our reviews, we have a high rating on HomeAdvisor. This situation is an anomaly, however I do understand where David is upset about a few items. To summarize: Early Arrival: In this situation we did in fact show up to the jobsite 1 day earlier than the contract stated. In most cases this would be a good thing, however in this case we failed to notify David that we were showing up early. We sincerely apologized to David for this situation as our communication is always up front with our customers, and David accepted our apology for the early arrival to the jobsite. Footing Repair: During the deconstruction of the project, our crew noticed that there were two structural posts underneath the deck that were burying in the dirt and rotting. These structural posts were holding up a stair landing that was now in danger of sagging and was a safety hazard. This was unforeseen and unable to be detected before the project started. Because our crew is so attentive, they immediately stopped work to focus on the issue at hand. They dug down and installed two sonotube concrete footings, 8" in diameter and 42" deep per code. The proper protocol that the crew should have followed would have been to immediately call their supervisor and communicate the issue at hand. Then, the supervisor would contact the customer to let them know of the issue and the additional cost to install the two footings. Instead, the saw the issue as an emergency and went ahead with the repair without the proper communication. Punch List: As we are a growing company, just prior to this project we promoted one of our crew members to a "crew chief". This position came with additional responsibilities including a very important one which is managing the "punch list" for each project that he is working on. When a project is completed, the crew chief must physically review the project to ensure that each and every item from the contract was completed, that the site is clean and everything is buttoned up. We communicated with our crew chief to find out the status of the project and he informed the office that the project was 100% completed and we can go ahead and close out the project with the customer. This turned out not to the case. The crew chief incorrectly communicated to the office that the project was completed when it was actually not. There were a few punch list items that needed to be attended to and the job site was not clean. The crew chief has been properly educated on the importance of closing out a project properly, and he is now operating correctly. Please view this beautiful project on our facebook page at Here at CT Deck Pros, we strive to be the best in our communication and in our work. We consistently produce wonderful projects and we learn from issues when they occur. Sincerely, John J. DeRosa Founder & CEO CT Deck Pros

The porch was perfect, we are very happy with it. They made suggestions as to the design which we liked very much so we went with it. I don't see a lot of full front porches on raised ranches but as an ex-Southerner, porches are a must-have. The porch we had on our house was nothing more than an old concrete slab so that had to go first, which they handled, and voila, new porch! Very happy with the way it turned out. Wonderful people to work with!

My porch was started before Memorial Day and was just finished on June 26th. Some of the problem was the inspection which took time but the rest of the time was the sub contractor that was doing my porch. In the end they had to have another sub contractor finish the job. The people at CT Deck Pros were all helpful.

I submitted a review a few months back on CT Deck Pros when I was dissatisfied with their service. They consistently kept in touch; and I am thrilled to give their company a 5 star rating for customer service, and integrity. I would highly recommend this company, as they came through as promised. I intentionally seek out small businesses for the "customer service" approach. John and Chris did not disappoint!
