JH Strain Carpentry, LLC, was the first major contract to remodel the Petty Officers' Club at the Philadelphia Naval Yard for the Navy's Bi-Centennial. From then to now, we've been involved with historic restoration, new and not so new homes, and major renovation. Currently 40% of our work is done for developers, while the rest of our time is spent with private home owners, and custom builders. Our company is a husband and wife team with years of experience in hundreds of homes. We enjoy working with people to develop the design best suited to their lifestyles. We're very capable of coming up with modern, classic, and traditional styles, as well as craftsman and colonial. Our goal is to provide a solid, well crafted job that we can take pride in and that our clients will be proud to have!

Joe came out quickly for the estimate and was honest and forthcoming about the work that needed to be done. He even went the extra mile to accomodate us quickly since we had other work on hold that could not continue until our doors were fixed and replaced. The work was completed quickly but with no sacrifice to quality. At the end of the job, we asked him to come back and quote us on replacing our front door as well.

We are extremely pleased with the project. Joe and his crew showed up on time everyday and kept us informed though out the evolution. He is very flexible and took the time to work with us on some major changes that we made during the job. He has over 40 years experience and is very meticulous and pays attention to every little detail. He not only made suggestion that made the deck more functional and look nicer, but he saved us a lot of $$$$ that we were able to put toward other upgrades for the project. I would also like to say that we went though Hurricane Sandy half way into the job and that Joe sent over one of his crewman (Rodger) on their off day to make sure the framing was secure and the material and the work site was protected from the storm.

the work was excellent. This contractor worked with my schedule and made every attempt to accommodate our ability to be in the home during the work. Professional approach to all aspect of the work and Joe and his staff are not only very pleasant but extremely polite. There was additional long standing rain damage to our floor which he discovered and repaired.

Excellent workmanship - the only reason for the 4.5 is that the hardward on hinges of a few doors bronze when all other hardware nickel. Excellent workmanship, prompt, neat, and courteous.

Joe Strain was wonderful from beginning to the end of my kitchen cabinet project. I wanted to install glazed glass on a number of my cabinets and once I explained what I wanted Joe just took over. He chose an absolutely perfect glass and his caulking on the interior is flawless as well as invisable!!! My old cabinets look fabulous and I would highly recommend Joe to everyone for home repairs. He gave me so much advice on other odds and ends that his expertise on just about everything was evident. Joe was meticulous, helpful, and extraorinarily professional. Do yourself a favor, save yourself time and money, and just hire Joe.
