Profile
Kelsey Electric, Inc.

We excel on difficult projects, and we love to be challenged.

KELSEY ENGINEERING AND ELECTRIC CORP. strives to provide our customers with the highest quality of structural and electrical engineering, and electrical contracting sales and service. We perform engineering inspections; diagnose problems, and provide design fixes for all types of building related issues. Our structural engineering group inspects residential, commercial and industrial buildings to determine if they are in good structural condition, and if not, then to provide designs and budget estimates for the repairs. After the on-site inspection, we document our findings in a SUMMARY LETTER to you. We typically provide two repair estimates, one, a quicker, less conservative design that is intended to resolve for the problem for a lower cost. The second estimate is for a more traditional, longer lasting design intended to resolve th problem for the long term. These estimates, after we have determined the problem(s), are free.

1) Did not do investigative work as promised 2) Improperly identified structural components Hired for structural evaluation of roof. Al promised would do exploratory work if needed (some holes existed from previous investigation). Al did not review any of the wholes any nor did he cut newer holes, but then stated in his report " Because I cannot see the rafters themselves, I cannot ..." yet he had access. Improperly identified a structural ridge beam as a ridge board (two other engineers verified that it was a ridge beam). Big difference because one has to do with supporting the roof. Did not offer refund.

Alan was very professional quick to respond, and quick to issue a detailed report. As a real estate broker who sometimes needs a structural report under tight deadlines, he is an important contact to have,

I thought Alan would be a sure thing seeing the 5 star ratings on Service Magic. Boy was I wrong. We wanted to know if a wall was load bearing. Then possibly see design options. We sent Alan a CAD file of the house and many pictures, even the trusses. Alan admitted that his price ($395) was high, and that with the work already done, he would charge $100. So it was agreed that he would come out. Alan was a no call, no show. Alan was very delinquent via phone, despite saying that email is overrated and that’s why we have phones. I decided to give Alan a second chance. Alan shows up, doesn’t look in the attic or in the basement. Speaks of these grand ideas, either to suspend LVLs with metal straps from tall beams, or better yet, lift a 1700lb beam into the attic. Alan leaves. We quickly realize Alan never verified what’s load bearing, or what all of our options were. We write Alan the following day and learn he has already started design work, without any prior consent. We ask Alan which design he’s working on. It’s one which requires forklifts; which will cost over $10,000 to implement. We ask Alan to hold on and to clarify what we have and what our options are. Alan tells us he’s stopped his design work and sends an invoice for $395. Alan then writes that he doesn’t think the trusses we have, judged by the picture we originally sent, are structural. WHICH MEANS WHATEVER DESIGN HE WAS DOING, WOULDN’T HAVE WORKED. Which I remind you, we never asked him to start working on in the first place. I try calling Alan several times. I left a message for him to call me back so we could talk about this. Alan doesn’t call me back. Alan sends a hostile e-mail to tell us that he has stopped all work. He insults my friend calling him a useless gopher. He tells us to find someone else and then makes a derogatory comment about other projects we’re working on.
Response by Kelsey Electric, Inc.: I have learned that there are always two sides to every story, and a customer can say whatever he or she wishes. Obviously, I refute all of the claims made, and am happy to continue helping many other new customers with their structural and non-structural issues. It is always my goal to help everyone with integrity and professionalism. I wish this customer well on his future endeavors.
