I was very impressed with the service I received from Zefer Contracting. Andrew Griffin and his team did a great job replacing my roof. Andrew helped advise me on getting a second insurance adjuster to look at my roof after the first one only approved 1/2 of my roof replacement. The second adjuster agreed that the whole roof needed replaced. My roof was replaced in one day and their crew did a terrific job, plus they did an excellent job of cleaning all the mess out of my yard. Even went the extra mile to put back my bird feeders and refilled my bird bath! I would definitely recommend this company! Thank you for a job well done!

They were very responsive, informing me quickly of delays in meeting the appointment. Anthony, the associate that repaired our roof, was thorough, courteous, and efficient. I was so pleased with their responsiveness and work, that I've asked them to quote a deck repair and staining. Furthermore, after meeting Danny, the associate that schedules all the work, I had a high degree of trust, which is often hard to find with contractors.

If I could rate them in the negatives, I would. The owner, Sean Holmes, is working way outside his scope of practice or specialty. He is strictly in the business for the money and has no care or concern for consumers. On 10/8/16, after Hurricane Matthew, we had damage to the inside of our home (ceilings) due to the roof leaking. A Zefer Contracting Inc. salesman came to provide a free estimate and convinced us to file with our insurance company, and even made the claim on our behalf. Our house was built in 1973 and the popcorn ceiling texture is asbestos containing (confirmed through lab test results). We informed the salesman and Sean Holmes of this information before they began to perform the work. They informed us that they would supplement the insurance company for it later. They said it was not a problem and they would hire a sub-contractor that specialized in asbestos removal and take all EPA standard precautions. We were advised that we did not need to leave our home due to the precautions they would take. The work began on 11/19/16 and we were required to pay in cash. The first half at the beginning of the project and the last half at the end when the work was "to our satisfaction." On 11/23/16, we discovered money, personal items, and a gun missing from our home which was stolen by Zefer Contracting sub-contractors. Zefer Contracting openly admitted to not background checking their employees. We filed a police report on Thanksgiving Day as a result. At that time I shared my concerns with Zefer Contracting that no precautions were taken and our home was covered in a layer of dust which I was upset about due to knowing that the dust likely contained asbestos. Sean Holmes attempt to make me feel better and was to place an air filter in our home for 3 days before removing it and having a second sub-contracting company come in to work on our home which started back up 11/28/16. Too bad it was way too late. Due to my underlying concerns, I had the dust in our home tested on 12/7/16 by a professional licensed asbestos inspector. We received the results on 12/9/16 that the air quality and wipe samples for asbestos were positive. We were encouraged to leave our home immediately, and to stay in a hotel, which we did. We have been displaced from our home as a result and continue to be and will be for Christmas. We are required to have a professional asbestos abatement company come in to clear before we can move back into our home. This is an extremely costly process and takes 10+ days. In addition to the theft and asbestos contamination that we were exposed to, Zefer Contracting Inc. employees damaged the paint in 4 of our rooms, tearing it off the wall, and also tore the wallpaper in our dining room because they used masking tape. None of these repairs have been completed and our house remains unfinished. This has truly been a nightmare from the day Zefer Contracting Inc. came into our lives on 10/27/16. They will continue to be a nightmare as we have been recommended to receive chest x-rays and physical exams yearly to ensure that we have no side effects from the asbestos exposure. Sean Holmes has avoided communicating with me and no-showed meetings multiple times. He has no care for our health or for his companies disastrous work which has results in health concerns and displacement. He still thinks we owe him money and was going to "deduct" remediation from what we owe!!! This company is housed in Georgia and has an office in NC. They are not authorized in the state of NC to perform work. They are not licensed asbestos abatement specialists. They never got a permit to remove the asbestos and have no regard for what they have exposed our family to. This is disheartening. This company and their employees are unprofessional, money hungry, negligent, performing work illegally, jeopardizing consumers safety, and should not be hired by anyone! Nightmare!
Response by Zefer Contracting, Inc.: Mrs. Beeler: Zefer Contracting is a corporation that is legal to work in the state of North Carolina and any other state in the union. We are a registered company who is deemed a "foreign entity" in any other state than Georgia but legal to provide services. As you can see see from numerous reviews we strive to provide excellent service to our customers and put our customers first. The owner of the company personally went out of his way to repair the un-level ridge of your home and the rafters that were dipping in the front of your home at no additional charge, this was to ensure a happy homeowner. We did not "require" you to pay in cash, we were told by you that another contractor was willing to do the job for $1,000 less than our original estimate if you paid him in cash. We were willing to lower our cost by roughly $300 if you paid us in cash and you accepted. Once the roof was done (they did not have the first half of the roof payment ready for us when work began but we chose to move forward anyways) your mother then asked if she could pay with a check. We said no unless you wanted to go back to the original estimated cost. We are not and have never advertised or claimed to be in the Asbestos abatement industry. Our estimate and contract (which you signed) on this job was to replace the roofing shingles, to remove the popcorn ceilings and to prep the ceilings for paint, not to do asbestos abatement. The roof was replaced with no issues and to your satisfaction. One plastic gutter was damaged in the rear of the home and we promptly repaired this gutter and one other that we did not damage but that was out of place. The popcorn ceiling removal got underway and the ceiling remained wet during the process to keep dust down (this is the process for any popcorn ceiling replacement). I was called the night before Thanksgiving and told that items were stolen from the house by our sub-contractor. I advised that I would be there the next morning (Thanksgiving morning) to assist in alerting the police and helping in any way that I could. I did so as I said I would. I asked for receipts of these items so that I could reimburse and was told that this could not be provided. I would be happy to reimburse for these items as soon as a receipt for said items is given. This sub-contractor was vetted to the best of our ability (previous clients and homeowners called and portfolio reviewed), the sub-contractor had worked for us for over 6 months on numerous projects and inside many homes, without any issues. I removed this contractor from the project and promptly installed another sub-contractor. We also decided to caulk all of the ceilings and trim for the homeowners as a favor for the trouble they had up to this point. The job was at 95% completion prior to any indication that the homeowners had any issue with our work or any concerns about asbestos. the homeowners did not provide the insurance company with any information regarding asbestos and any indication of a dangerous level of asbestos was never given to Zefer Contracting. Wallpaper was damaged during the process and we promptly gathered a sample of this to match so that we could repair it. The homeowners tried to tell us that we needed to remove the wallpaper, skim the walls and prepare it for paint as well because "this is what they really wanted". I declined as the wallpaper could be repaired. They also tried to have us sand down and prepare a beam for paint though it was not included in the estimate. Again I declined. There is $2,400 of payment that has not yet been given and I told them that this could go towards the wallpaper/stolen items. I feel it should be noted that no charges have been filed against the sub-contractor for any theft.
