About This Gallery

This home had an existing 12 x 32 patio slab. We cut into the existing hip roof and added a new roof structure to encompass the existing chimney. A brick knee wall and columns were then constructed. Vinyl fascia, soffit, a ceiling and gutters were added. Ceiling fans and screening were installed. These homeowners are enjoying beautiful autumn days on their new porch.

Love it! I am considering doing the exact same hip roof tie-in. However, I'd like to find out more about how the tie-in is done (from an engineering perspective), if it can be done DIY (I'm pretty experienced with friends that are builders), and approximate cost (if hiring a contractor). If the author of this article could possible post what he paid to have this done, not including brick work, I would be hugely appreciative.
