Comment: We are buying a home and the house was inspected today and the inspector said something about using LVL beam and posts to replace all the temporary jack poles that have been used to level the floors. <br />There are 15 jack poles that need to be replaced and we would like to have more room in the garage for the car. Comment: Re-building a exterior deck where the initial builder did not use pressure treated, thus everything rotted, including the 14 inch tall laminated beams. Because of height limitations I want to use a 5" steel Ibeam to cantilever 2X10 PT joists over the steel so the finished floor level is the same as it is now without cutting the existing steel columns. I will want 3- 18 foot, and 1- 21.5 foot beams, welded together at the corners and welded to existing metal flange within the existing structural columns. If height of the beams is an issue we can cut the existing coumns, re-weld the plate to the column then proceed.
