Comment: We get standing water next to our brownstone after a heavy rain, and the inside of the basement walls have efflorescence and some washed out mortar between some of the bricks. There is a "drain" outside in an area next to the building that is paved, but I can see no evidence of a proper "drain" or pipe leading any water to the sewer system. It looks to me like this "drain" is just a small hole in the concrete, essentially, and this takes a long time to let the water flow into the ground. We need to determine if this problem requires drain repair or installation, or waterproofing of the foundation. Thanks.
