Deck, Siding, Remodel
"We had several jobs that Raught Homes Prevention completed for us. We needed to level a sunroom (approx. 10â x15â ) that extended out from the 2nd floor of our house that was leaning away from the house. We also needed to replace part of a split horizontal crossbeam (6â x12â x12â ) that supported part of a 50â long deck that is about 20â off the ground and which could have buckled if we had a significant earthquake. And the last job we asked for a bid was to better support the landing of the stairs that came off that deck that had not been supported correctly by the contractor who first built them. When we asked them to give us a bid for those problems to see if we could afford it, they were able to come out that evening and take measurements and tell us how they would do each of the tasks we needed. They then followed within a couple of days with bids for each project and a tentative timeline that they could do those jobs if we decided to hire them. Their bids were very competitive, and their representatives seemed very knowledgeable and experienced. We decided that we could afford all 3 of the jobs that badly needed being done and signed contracts and established dates for each. They came to the house with all the material (pressure treated wood/jacks/etc) that was needed for each day and arrived at the times they said they would come. They were very good at spreading tarps to contain their waste and were careful to clean up each day. For the sunroom they began by carefully removing the lattice that enclosed that area below the sunroom. They then inserted numerous wall jacks under the sunroom and slowly jacked the sunroom up until it was level. No floor tiles inside the sunroom were even cracked in the jacking process and all the cracks on the sheetrock inside the sunroom that had been caused by its settling all disappeared with the leveling just leaving small lines in the sheetrock which they later covered with caulking making it looking like the room had never settled. They fixed the original 6â x6â supporting posts under the room and also inserted one additional post to make the support even stronger. All cutting that was required on the concrete pad under the sunroom for the support posts was backfilled with concrete that even matched the original concrete, so it didnâ t even look like work had been done. They even removed siding from around the sunroom to see if there had been any rotting due to settling and some water stains that showed on the outside. They replaced those sidings after determining there was no rotting and you couldnâ t even tell they had been removed! They even rejoined a separated downspout from our rain gutter above the sunroom without us asking. For replacing a section of the cross beam on the deck, they jacked up the deck and (after carefully moving a birdâ s nest that had 3 eggs to a safe place and later replaced) they then replaced the beam using better screws/etc than what was originally used. The deck-landing support posts (4â x4â x8â &10â ) were also removed after jacks again were placed around the landing. They reinforced our 2â x10â decking joists near where the posts were supported. They had to cut through the decking to insert the posts and we couldnâ t even tell the posts went through the decking. Great job!! To us they were very professional in their work, and we are very pleased with the final look. We are very confident of not having any safety concerns stemming from the work in the future. Their knowledge was impressive, and we appreciated how they kept us informed about each step that was needed to solve the problems and when additional problems cropped up, which did occur, they were good at giving us several different options to solve those problems. We highly recommend this company if you want an excellent job done."

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.
Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
