Project: Install a Wood Fence
Sacramento, CA

Chris was very efficient and the first to respond to my initial request for a fence estimate. He was on-time and very communicative throughout the project. He gladly made concession to small changes during the project. The price of the fence work was very reasonable and fair. He even educated me about certain types of posts and was able to purchase substantially better posts for the same price as the posts we agreed to use for the project. The workmanship on the fence is very good. He cleaned up after the job was completed. Thanks Chris for being such an honest and professional contractor!

Ideas & Inspiration from Sacramento Fence Contractors

Sacramento Wood Fences

Wood has a long history in construction, and is still an extremely popular material today. Used in many different facets of homebuilding, few things can provide the versatility and beauty of this classic material. In Sacramento, wood fences are an excellent choice for nearly any situation. Whether you're looking to keep pets and small children out of harm's way, or you simply want to increase privacy, security, or curb appeal, you can probably accomplish it with a wood fence. Sacramento homeowners in the market for an exterior upgrade need to weigh their options carefully; if you think a fence might be in your property's future, there are a few things you should know about wood as a fencing material in your area.

Benefits and Drawbacks
Each fence material has something to bring to the table, but none are likely to offer the variety and versatility of wood fencing. Central Valley and Sacramento wood fences are available in far more styles than any other fence option; additionally, wood fencing is easy enough to work with that it can be customized to suit your specific needs and tastes with far less effort than other materials. As far as performance goes, Sacramento wood fences are likely to hold up better than wood fences in other areas of the country because of the area's mild weather and climate. Though moisture and temperature fluctuations (two of outdoor wood's most powerful enemies) can certainly be found in the upper Central Valley, when compared to conditions found in other parts of the country, a Sacramento wood fence is going to have a nearly perfect setting.

Unfortunately, no matter what the conditions, wood that's exposed to the elements will require some upkeep if it is to remain in good condition. While several species of wood might offer more resistance to weather and insect damage (cedar, for example, contains a natural oil that makes it well suited to outdoor use), the maintenance requirements for a wood fence will be something to consider.

Other Fencing Materials vs. Wood Fences
For homeowners in Sacramento, wood fencing is just one of several options to mark the perimeter of your property. Wrought iron fences look great and have a history that's nearly as long as wood, and newer metal fences made of aluminum are very durable and work well in many situations. Chain link fencing is a practical and economical option; vinyl fences, once considered "fake looking", have come a long way as far as appearance goes and are extremely durable.

When compared to these materials, wood has its good and bad points. It is far less expensive than wrought iron in installation, and both materials will require some regular maintenance to remain in good condition. Wood fencing is also less expensive than aluminum or vinyl fencing; these other materials, however, far outshine wood when it comes to being low maintenance. When compared to chain link, wood fencing is more expensive and requires more maintenance, but far outshines the cheaper material in appearance.

Prices
HomeAdvisor keeps records of every job we process, including installing a wood fence in Sacramento. Nationwide, the average cost of wood fence installation is about $2,900. As for our figures in Sacramento, wood fencing can cost as little as $1,400 or as much as $6,000 to install. The wide fluctuation in price is determined not just by the size of the fence, but also the species of wood it is made of and the fence's style. If this is a project that you are likely to enter into, make sure to get several bids from several different contractors, as the company that installs your fence could make a huge difference in its price, and its performance, too!
