David Lupberger on Increasing Your Home's Curb Appeal: Hi, I'm David Lupberger with ServiceMagic.com. In this video we're going to talk about some simple steps that you can follow to really increase the curb appeal of your home. Now these are simple things but they are things that most of us just don't think about. Lupberger: Let's start when people are walking up to your home; what's the landscaping look like? Have the bushes been trimmed, are there weeds in the garden? Are there any dead flowers? In a matter of an hour or two you can clean this up so that really it's a very fresh clean appearance as people walk up your walkway. Lupberger: As a visitor comes to your front door ask yourself what are they seeing? In this case I see some unfinished paint, some peeling paint. Not just here but even here on the porch railing. Again this is a simple fix. Some sanding & painting this will be nice and fresh and clean. Lupberger: If I look at the patio itself you'll see there are still some dead leaves and some plants that are growing into the patio. So I'd want to take those off, you'll also see some paint peeling over there on the railing. Lupberger: I'm looking now at some of this porch furniture and here is some peeling fabric. And again, I don't think about it but it is leaving an impression on a potential visitor. Lupberger: As I'm standing here at the door is there dust that I could clean so my door is clean? See not only is there dust on the door but as I'm looking at this wreath and you can see there's a birds nest on the front door. It's a nice feature but not a very good feature if you're trying to sell your home. And I bring this up also because imagine if you're trying to sell your home and the potential buyers come into your home for the first time and as the realtor spends 35 to 45 seconds to get the lockbox open, that potential buyer is standing on your porch and looking at each one of these things and asking themselves has this home been taken care of? Lupberger: So one of the things you should also look at is, are the screens good there's no torn screens? Are the windows clean? Are there any surfaces where dust is remaining? Those are the simple things you can take care of so that not only when a potential buyer, but when visitors come and stand on your porch it's welcoming, it's fresh and it's clean. These are just some simple things that you can do to vitally increase the look of your home.
