While Thomas is a friendly, charming gentleman, and his work is good, he is a horrible communicator. A job which he told me would take a few days ended in week 4. Many excuses and delays. Even though we had a list of supplies to get, given to us by the contractor, he was ill prepared for task at hand for day where I had to go out and get materials at the drop of a hat. His "company" of workers, consistent of just him. Would leave messages with my children instead of calling or texting me. His personal problems (ie. his mother's health, his custody issues) became my problem. He gave me receipts to be reimbursed that included personal items, ie. Red Bull, and tools, from Lowes, and justified it by saying it wasn't a big deal. Then, on the day of completion, I gave him his checks, and then he said I owed him an additional $1500.00 for plumbing. This was never discussed with my husband or myself and it is clearly written that any changes to our contract had to be in writing and signed by both parties. During this time, both my husband and myself took days off from work to accommodate him. Ultimately we did not give him any extra money. Even though he did not install our closet door and trim (it was not ordered correctly and is on back order), we are sending him the $100.00 that is still owed from our original agreement to end our business with him. I do not want him to ever come back; we will pay someone else to complete the closet. Can rarely believe anything that comes out of his mouth and it may change at any time. UPDATE: 6/7/2016 Since my review, I received the following text message from owner Thomas Defreese. "Well since your feedback on home advisor was the furthest from the truth, I'm going to file a lien on your house. Plus legal fees, as well as the City of Middletown or town of Wallkill for doing work without a permit in which you were told to get (lie)and you informed me that you did. I'm sure there going to make you tear up the floor to make sure the plumbing was done right and the electrical. Best regards" I think this says it all. 6/19/26- Beware: Mr. deFreese's response is full of lies and utter fabrication. I have every text, note and question and response to prove what I wrote was 100% the truth. Don't say I didn't warn you.

    Response from Company:

In this line of business it is difficult to please everyone, but I'd like to clarify some of things you are dissatisfied with. I'd first like to start by saying that you were made aware that your complete bathroom gut and renovation would take between 2-4 weeks. Unfortunately when your project was started, there was over a good week of rain, which led to part of the delay. As far as the bathroom door, you didn't want it replaced in the beginning. Once the bathroom was almost completed, you wanted the dimensions to order the door. Due to the special size, it had to be special ordered. Your project would have been completed if the door was ordered with the rest of the materials. Second, as per our contract, supplies were not included in your price because you wanted to purchase your own materials for your bathroom, and you were given a complete list. When the shower didn't come with the proper hardware, I was left with no choice but to buy the necessary supplies to properly install it. I also had to purchase a new diverter valve because after installing it, I realized it was faulty. There were also several hundred dollars of other materials, which I wasn't reimbursed for, so the red bull and $9.99 trowel seem small in comparison. The heart of the issue, which you failed to mention, included what we found when we gutted your bathroom and the several extreme fixes we needed to perform outside the scope of your contract and basic renovation. That's where the extra cost occurred, for the extra time and extra materials I had to purchase. When the problems arose you were made aware of the extra tasks at hand and I was told to complete them. You are correct, I did not pull out the contract before I followed your directions to fix the issues, and now I'm out that money. To see that you are pleased for not paying me for extra work that was verbally agreed to says a great deal. I just have to look at it as a lesson learned on my part. Finally, I did leave messages with your adult children because I had some difficulties getting in touch with you. I also wasn't able to leave anyone working at your home without me being present because of your negativity and demeaning manner. I refuse to put a good worker in that situation. One cannot predict unforeseen issues, but I know that at the end of the day, I stand behind my work, and I did not read otherwise from your review.

They made good on the promises made to me and the service was good, they returned and fixed the issues.

    Response from Company:

We are sorry you feel that you had a poor experience with our company. This is one complaint we aren't accustom to hearing. It is our understanding that you were supposed to complete something that you didn't. We tried to further contact you to hear what exactly you were unhappy with, but your number is no longer in service. We would gladly like to hear from you about your full experience. We do value constructive feedback so we can grow as a company. Thank you.

For what they charge their work is great. A very fair rate. The owner is a great honest person. They do what they say, on time, and do a great job. I recommend them.
