Project: Install Wood or Stone Laminate Flooring
Dragon Scale Installed laminate flooring in all my bedrooms in December, 2017. The installation crew spoke no English, and no one from company stayed while the work was being done so communication was nil. They painted the quarter round BLUE instead of a color that matched the floor. They cut wood too short against the floorboards, so short that the trim couldn't hide their mistakes. They attempted to patch it in some areas and it stands out like a sore thumb. They painted the trim outside my home in December temperatures, and then installed it while wet, messing up my newly painted floorboards and smearing the blue paint on the white floor boards. When trying to get them to fix their errors, two employees left in a matter of 2 weeks, and my floor has just sat since Dec. 2017. Andrew, the owner, was well aware of the poor quality work through pictures, emails and phone calls, and to date has never looked at the mistakes in person. Just last week, he sent one person to fix everything that is wrong. Since he ignored my requests for repairs for over 7 months, I have decided to involve the MHIC for this poor quality workmanship. I am sorry I hired this company. Their rates were very high when compared to other flooring companies.

Project: Install Ceramic or Porcelain Tile
We hired Dragonscale to install a new back splash in our kitchen that included going up the entire right wall instead of cutting off at cabinet level. We picked our a smaller herringbone tile and decided to lay it down in a horizontal orientation. Our installer Elvis has done a 4 ft section of our wall and the horizontal lines it was creating were crooked and I asked him to stop so my fiance and I could inspect it because it wasn't looking right. Elvis kept telling us that the tile material we chose wasn't laying right in a horizontal orientation and kept blaming it on the material we chose. We've seen plenty of pictures of this done before, so we know it's possible. So either he was unprepared for the work he was scheduled to complete or not capable enough to do it. Eventually, we gave up arguing about it, had him remove the section of tile he started (maybe 6-7 sq ft?) and start laying the tile in a vertical orientation so there weren't long horizontal lines. When he was about half way through the rest of our back splash Elvis started telling us that there now wouldn't be enough material to go all the way up our right wall like we had agreed to in our estimate. He told me that the material he pulled off the wall wasn't usable. When we got closer to the right wall, I decided to go through the material he pulled off the wall to figure out how much of it was easily salvageable because I refuse to believe a slightly stretched mesh makes tiles completely unusable, that's what spacers are for. There definitely was enough and I even laid it all out nicely on the floor for him showing him there was enough. But by this point he seemed pretty committed to not going all the way up the wall. Not sure if he had another job afterwards or didn't want to put in the work dealing with more manual work spacing the smaller tiles. We eventually got frustrated and told him to just finish it at cabinet level. Now I have around $150 of perfectly good tile left that I paid for that's going to go un-used that's not worth it to ship back and a back splash not finished to what we wanted. Dragon scale refused to reimburse us for any of the extra left over tile from their installer not finishing the work. Not to mention, they asked to borrow one of my buckets and completely ruined it with grout. The quality of work and frustration wasn't worth the money we paid them. You can see the vertical lines get less and less straight the further to where he ended the backsplash showing he got lazy and just wanted to be done. Probably could have done this level of work myself and saved money and frustration. Won't be back.

I paid this company over $1300 as a deposit (towards a $3825.79 total) to install hardwood flooring/hardwood stairs in October 2017 for a home I was building and due to settle on, on 11/24/17. Dragon Scale flooring failed to meet the requested install date and rescheduled my appointment, without warning, pushing back the date on 3-4 different occasions. Upon the start of the work, my brand new house was left in disarray with dust and debris after repeated claims that my brand new, newly constructed house and family living situation would not be disturbed, the workers that arrived claimed not to know anyone from the company with whom I'd been in contact with for over a month and could not speak any English, the floor was not installed as requested per the photo I provided to the company via text message as an example of work to be performed a month prior, nor did the floor they install match my existing floor or even parts of what they themselves had just installed that day, leaving my home with 3 different colors of hardwood at the conclusion of the appointment. Upon contacting the company, I was literally yelled at for not alerting them of my concerns sooner. Upon a second attempt at addressing my concerns and threatening legal action, I was offered to have someone return to correct their mistakes and apologized to for mishandling and losing their cool during the previous call, at which point my family and I wanted nothing further to do with the company outside of a written apology, a refund and compensation to correct the damages they caused...none of which I have received as of this writing.
Response by Dragon Scale Flooring, Inc.: The deposit paid was towards materials, of which exceeded the deposit amount. The customer changed his mind on the look of his floor/steps midway through the installation and then claimed to have company/family arriving that evening. Dragon Scale installed his hardwood upstairs to match the lower level without any issues (the floor ordered was the exact material downstairs) and the concern revolves around steps that were not completed. Customer changed from stained risers to painted risers, of which would now not be dry by the time his company would arrive. Installation took place 1 week later than was originally scheduled and was pushed back because material arrived from the manufacturer damaged and Dragon Scale will not install damaged material. For the inconvenience the customer was offered the steps at no cost. Customer was aware of the timeline that now changed at his request and work was scheduled to commence on Monday following. Customer did not allow the Dragon Scale team to complete the work when work was scheduled. Dragon Scale also had a professional cleaning service set up to complete a whole home cleaning even though the work area was thoroughly cleaned prior to the team leaving on Saturday.

Project: Install Ceramic or Porcelain Tile
Well, where should I start. Dave the supervisor never returned any of my calls although he promised to each time. I had to call him back each time. When he first came out to evaluate the job, he told me that the ceramic tile I bought (from Potomac Tile & carpet) could not be installed in my house and suggested vinyl flooring and promised to call me back to discuss. He didn't call me back so I called him again to get options and he said that there is a possibility that the tile could be used but it would take special installation and he stated "I would just walk away from the job", but then promised he would call me back after he was out of a meeting. He never called me back and I called him again and he completely changed his mind and said, oh yeah, we can use your tile and do the special installation, "because we do this type of stuff all the time". He made it sound so complicated. After all this back and forth, I can't believe I still hired him. After a couple more calls to confirm the date and time for installation, the contractors did install the tile. From what I saw, there wasn't anything complicated about the install. We also had a transition from hardwood to tile and the installers did not leave space between the tile and hardwood for the transition board making it uneven. They had to saw down the board to flattened it so it would work. After all the tile was installed and grouted (no time for corrections), he told the installers they should have left 1/2 inch gap between tile and hardwood. Not sure how something so standard be forgotten, especially when he said his installers are very experienced. It appears they did not use enough grout because there were a lot of air bubbles and when dry, there are gaps in the grout. The overall look of the floor is acceptable, because what other choice do I have. The installers made it work and they were very friendly, so I gave them a tip. I paid over $3k for the install I bought tile and grout, for a total of $6k for the new flooring. I don't think it was worth that due to the lack of customer service from Dave. Before you ever hire someone to do home improvement, learn how to do it yourself so you can catch things before it is too late. I wish I had done that. The contractors will do what they can to get the job done, but not necessarily done right.

We had an appointment set for 10 AM. They were late so I called at 10:30. My appointment kept getting pushed back but they eventually showed up. The quality of the work was exactly what I wanted.
