The guy I spoke to said he would help me with my home improvement project and tell me exactly what to do as far as removing a support wall and installing a beam, instead he came and belittled us, charged us $300 for a 15 minutes visit, said if we wanted a plan on what size beam to use we would need to pay him more and/or contract one of his General Contractor friends that according to him would only take the job if we let them take over the entire remodel. It was a huge waste of money and I would not use them again. Ended up contracting a framing contractor who used his own engineer regardless.
Response from Company:
Emily, We apologize if you experienced any inconvenience with your project. We do remember your specific case in which you were in the process of demolishing two interior walls of the kitchen without a building permit or building plans. You requested our professional opinion on whether or not you should remove a specific post and wall section, which we indicated was load bearing. We verified this information by reviewing the structure from within the attic, and a drywall cut that you had made for the inspection. We did recommend using a licensed contractor to assist you with your remodel, due to the extent of damage you could cause during your un-permitted interior remodel. If you experienced any form of "Belittling" please keep in mind, that it's our responsibility to ensure the safety of the public, and any form of construction or remodel that poses a threat of danger to you, your family, or others must be addressed. We are happy to hear that you are working with a contractor and engineer to ensure that your project obtains official building documents, the proper Building Department Approval for construction, and receives regular inspections from a City official for continuity. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience that you might have experienced, but rest assured that we have your well being and all our customers well being at the forefront of our professional services.

After a general inspection, I wanted to follow up with a more specialized inspection of the structural foundation and a bowing in the garage roof of a home I am in in the process of buying. I hired Jackson to do a visual inspection of these regions and provide me with an estimate for potential repairs needed. Jackson examined the areas and found a few things that my general home inspection missed (e.g., 3 missing foundation posts which were causing the floor above to slope, and some decomposition in one of the foundation walls due to improper drainage). Jackson explained his findings both verbally and in a letter, and provided a brief description of the fixes that were needed and their approximate cost. I found this really useful, as I could present this information to the seller as well. Jackson charged a reasonable $200 for this, and I felt it was money well spent for some peace of mind in helping me make the right decisions on this home.
