We had an unfortunate situation with Faux Artistry. The job was to wallpaper our 12' x 13' dining room. It was basically wallpapering three walls with the fourth wall being a bay window area. I had prepared all of the walls and repainted the ceiling and walls after some water damage caused by ice damming. The estimated price by Faux Artistry was $400-$500. We put down an initial $100. We did have an initial miscommunication for which my wife and I are probably to blame. Therefore, we were short one double roll of wallpaper when Faux Artistry finished their first day at our house. When Faux Artistry rescheduled to complete the job, we agreed that she could come at a time when we were not at home. That was a mistake. Upon our return, it was obvious that the work was not complete. Faux Artistry blamed the fact that the last double roll of wallpaper had a defect in it and she could not use much of the roll. I do not understand why she did not leave the defective wallpaper so that we could take it back for credit at our decorating store. The portion of the room she was finishing was the complex bay window area. That is admittedly a more difficult part of the job. I believe that I could have done at least as good a job if not better than Faux Artistry in this area. The final straw was that the last piece of wall paper she hung was off of vertical by 1.5" from top to bottom. I will need to remove and repair this area when I receive the next double roll of wallpaper. At almost $100 per double roll of wallpaper, this has been an expensive job for us. To pay Faux Artistry, we were to leave the final check on the dining room table. Since there was a range of cost in the estimate, we were unsure of which amount to leave. My wife tried to call Faux Artistry twice the week prior to her coming to our house for the second time. We received no response. Therefore, we left a $350 check for a total of $450 for the job. We left a note saying that if this was not correct. Please let us know. Of course, Faux Artistry wanted the final $50. It is my opinion that Faux Artistry took on a job that was beyond her capabilities. We were disappointed.
Response by Faux Artistry & Interior Designs, Inc.: As the owner of Faux Artistry I take great pride in my work. I have never not left a customer happy. I am absolutely going to comment on this post as it is absolutely not warranted. I have a very successful business and am a member of the BBB, Houzz, Angie's List, and of course HomeAdvisor. I went out to this estimate, went 25 miles, 45 minutes away, met the L's[Consumer name withheld at their request] and had a nice conversation with them. They have a very small dining room and the wallpaper task was simple. Mrs. L[Consumer name withheld at their request] was having a troubled day as she was having issues with a bank. I measured 5 double rolls for the job and then set up a return date to hang the paper. I arrived on time at 9'oclock and started the project. Further into the job i noticed Mr's L. ordered only 4 double rolls of wall paper. I turned to Mr and Mr's L. and asked them for the 5th double roll. She apologized and said she only ordered 4. I told her its ok and i will come back after they order the final roll and hang it for them. They were to call me when they received the wall paper and after they got home from vacation. They did not call me by Wednesday, I called them and told them that i was waiting for them to reach out. I told them that i was leaving on vacation as well and Mr. L said that they must have been confused and thought that i was coming without ever informing me. I made a return date on Saturday at 7 am. They said they had a book club and that i was to let myself in on the side door. I started hanging the wall paper and got to a defective section in the wall paper roll. I knew the only way to save the paper was to cut through the defective part. Because of the defects, we lost two full pieces of wallpaper. I used 90% of the roll and left all of the scraps behind for them to see. Left my bill on the table and all the reminding scraps for the homeowner. When they got home Mr's L. called me and told me that i did a beautiful job, but asked about what happened because there were two sections that where not completed. I told her the wall paper had defects in it and i used as much of the wallpaper as possible. They wanted to get a credit for the full roll from the store but i told them that they won't give you a credit because so much of the wall paper roll was used. I Told Mr's L. that she needs to purchase 1 more additional roll. She told me that i did a beautiful job and that her husband will finish hanging the last 2 sections. She stated she will send me the rest of the payment. I was hurt and disappointed and was wondering why such a poor review was written about me. I called Mr. L. and stated I was surprised by the review and told him to keep the 50$ to put that towards the roll of wallpaper they needed. He stated i deserved it, but i told him I don't want it and my reputation is more important. I told him that i know i gave 110% on this project.
