Reviews
Write a ReviewI have good things to say about Gilberto. However, his prices exceed his knowledge, and his failure to respond to my request that he correct a significant mistake, absoluely precludes my recommending his services. Gilberto is a pleasant young man just beginning his career as a handyman. He was punctual, polite, steady, and generally a careful worker, who is capable of improvising creatively when necessary. All good qualities. On his 2d visit, his task was to cut an 80"Hx30"W vintage door in half vertically and hang the halves French (or saloon) door style. The opening was 36"W, so job required attaching extra pieces of framing wood roughly 3"W to each side of the opening and hinging the exterior halves of the vintage door to the supplemental framing. The recommended space between the interior edges of French or saloon doors is 1/8". Gilberto somehow miscalculated several measurements and hung the doors with a space of 1.25" between them. We were quite surprised by the gap and tried to find it acceptable. However, after researching standard practice and carefully measuring the opening that evening, I concluded that it was simply too big. The next morning I texted Gilberto that although the balance of his work was excellent, the width of the gap was not acceptable. I suggested the possibility of narrowing the gap by using larger or adjustable hinges; in fact, it might have been even more simply narrowed by the addition of furring strips to the interior edges of the doors. Gilberto spent about 6 hours hanging the doors and performing a couple of unrelated minor chores. He charged $360, and I paid him in cash. Gilberto did not answer my texted request for revision! Three days later, hoping he had somehow overlooked my message, I forwarded it to him a second time. Again, he did not respond. Despite charging $60 per hour and making mistakes on matters totally under his control, he totally ghosted me! I find this totally unacceptable. Any good tradesperson takes gracious responsibility for his or her mistakes and is quick to remedy them. This man is apparently incapable of accepting criticism and unwilling to take necessary corrective steps. I find his failure to reply unprofessional, offensive, and very close to dishonest. I would never hire him again and cannot recommend his services to anyone else. I am able to provide details and photographs to anyone with a legitimate interest.
They did a good job.
Very trustworthy. Always on time. He delivered.
