They have a 6-7hr minimum. Include a 1hr "shopping" time for which you pay. I'm not interested in paying $85/hr for them at Home Depot. In 7 hrs. he did a tub caulking, and a 10min. wall touch-up in my den. He also dismantled a bath sized cabinet and sink outdoors but no clean-up. He came knowing there was a tub caulking involved but brought no caulking so the first thing I had to do was go to Home Depot and get some. Give me the old-fashioned type who comes prepared and does a great job in a reasonable time.
Response by Handyman Matters of Scottsdale: Just to clarify, we absolutely do not have a 6-7 hour minimum. In fact, we have just a one hour minimum...which allows us to come in and do the small things customers need addressed in between visits to tackle their to-do lists. We estimate ALL jobs prior to seeing them...because we're REALLY good at estimating how long things will take (we've been at this for awhile ;) and we don't want to waste your time). In this case, we estimated 5-7 hours to complete the work, explained to the customer EXACTLY what the cost for 5-7 hours' worth of labor would be AND got it done within that estimated time. Shopping time is not automatic by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, we're more than happy to use the materials you supply and usually have pretty detailed conversations about whether a customer has materials. What we don't do however, is guess what materials are needed (in this case, what color caulking a customer has) by buying materials before we see the project. Our goal is to do excellent work for you and that's not excellence. In addition, because all of our Craftsmen are licensed, bonded, insured and background-checked, the customer clearly felt comfortable picking up materials while we continued to work in her home on her project...we don't waste customer's time. We did disassemble the outdoor bath cabinet, and OF COURSE we cleaned up. What we didn't do was dispose of her cabinet by taking it offsite for free. We offered to put it out for oversized pickup, we offered a service called Bagster and we probably also offered to take it to a donation station for her...but the customer wasn't willing to pay. Everyone has a budget and we completely understand that. Not everyone is our customer and we've had to learn to accept that. What we go to great pains to do, however, is explain to customers how we operate so that THEY can make the decision as to what is best for them! Even though it stings because of the inaccuracies, we appreciate ALL feedback. It gives us the opportunity to get better at serving you!

Jim was perfect professional. Took care of Mom and Dad list of items from bi-fold door repair to sinks that needed a lot of tender care on the inside. Then finished off the place with a new set of locks for the doors. Mom and Dad - super seniors at 85 and 92 - felt he was terrific and when they need any fix up he is on speed dial.
