This company came in and saved the day! After a previously hired contractor walked off the job, I hired this company and they were able to complete my bathroom in my time frame and in my budget. I'm so happy I found them and I will be using them to do my kitchen!!!

Project: Hire a Handyman
In short, skip Handyman Matters of Cherry Creek (HMCC), move on and save yourself countless headaches. I got a quote from Craig for a variety of projects in our new home, which is a century old. We opted not to do the interior painting and he referred me to others for electrical and flooring work. We went ahead with small pluming projects: replacing 4 P-traps, recaulking, and replacing the garbage disposal. Nothing major. HMCC's price wasn't low, but they seemed professional, licensed and bonded. Rita indicated Craig wasn't able to do the work but another person could. That person was allocated 1-1.5 days to do the work. Per Rita's recommendations I procured the new garbage disposal to reduce the install time, so her staff wouldn't be running to Lowe's. HMCC began at 8a on a Thursday. I stuck around for 30min to show him where to place construction debris per HOA rules and walk him through the scope of work. When I returned at 5:30p with our 8-mo old baby. I found the handyman working in the bathroom to fix a leak he had created. All four sinks had their P-traps removed but not replaced. He had gotten sidetracked and wasn't able to install the garbage disposal. He had stripped and recaulked the shower. He asked for a few more hours to try and repair the new leak beneath the sink. So we left. We got home at 7:30 to find him gone and the leak still going. He did finish the second bathroom sink, so 1 of 4 sinks was now operational. On the nitpicky side, I'll note that he used our hand towels as rags for soldering, placed his tools on my wife's antique trunk, dumped construction debris in her white paper recycling bin, among other things… The next morning he arrived and still wasn't able to fix the leak. Nor did he install the garbage disposal or the kitchen sink P-trap, which also meant the dishwasher drain hose wasn't connected. He left abruptly at 10:30a. I called Michelle to ask her when someone could finish the job. Again not to harp on this particular handyman, but he walked out leaving his shop vac, the old garbage disposal, old P-traps and new ones, his caulk gun and a random pile of crap in our dining room--a room which wasn't even in the scope of work but he took it over as his staging area. My wife and I spent 2 hrs cleaning to protect our crawling baby. Rita sent Daniel over to do whatever could be done as it was now noon on Friday and I wanted a kitchen sink and dishwasher working. Daniel arrived and I walked him through the situation. Keep in mind I never expected to be taking time off work to babysit their staff. Daniel and I were astonished to find the breaker for the hardwired disposal had never been flipped and the BX cable was merely draped on the bottom of the kitchen cabinet with the water not shut off and no P-traps in place. I then left for work. I got home after 5p and noticed that the disposal was installed albeit with the "Insinkerator" logoed collar upside down, but nevertheless working along with the dishwasher. The other guy's shop vac and materials were still there and we still had a leak in a sink they caused. On Monday Rita recommended I call a plumber to fix the leak since they hadn't been able to fix it. On Tuesday the first handyman came back for his shop vac and left an invoice behind which merely showed a lump sum with no breakdown of what I was being charged for. That was the last I heard from HMCC. They didn't call back to apologize or schedule Daniel to come back. The next call I got was from their attorneys, Schlueter, Mahoney & Ross. I hadn't paid their invoice and HMCC had turned me over to collections. I still had a plumbing leak. I still had half finished work in the bathroom. I then wasted another 2 hrs with her attorney. I used a plumber to fix her leak. That bill was over $300 and she wasn't willing to cover any of it. Her attorneys did offer me $50 discount if I wouldn't write a negative review.
Response by Handyman Matters of Cherry Creek: Hi James, We've discussed your issue several times, apologized and discounted your labor by over $1000 for a sink with several pre-existing leaks. We felt this was more than enough to cover the cost of the plumbing bill. You were invoiced. The invoice was received at the household at time of service, and was signed stating that the work was completed satisfactorily and hereby agree to pay the full amount. When we contacted you again about the bill, you acknowledged the invoice and thought it was net 30 payment terms. When we told you it was not net30 and in fact due upon receipt, you declined payment then. Approaching the 30 day pay period, we tried again but were unsuccessful. It was at this time we believed you had no intention of paying for materials and labor so we passed you on to collections. Also there is no discount for not posting on social media, or "hush money" that is not an offer that they were authorized to make. However, this will be brought to the attorney's attention as they value their reputation as well. If there is an issue I'm sure they will contact you.

So far, very unimpressed with this business. Rita, who works in the office, is nice but is completely unprepared to estimate a job. The materials mark up (which I asked about upfront) was 20-30%, and though the workman told me that he had about 66 hours in, I was billed for 81 hours of work. I knew that the 'estimate' went over by $100 and OK-ed that, but was billed an additional $480 OVER that amount (over 6K total). When I questioned and asked for them to honor the workman's and my discussions around the amount as well as to give me actual receipts, I got a call from an attorney. The owner (Michelle) has not bothered to try and address my concerns or even call me. When she did email me, she pretty much ignored my questions and then 'was unavailable' and had Rita try to answer them. I'll post an additional bit of information here if I ever am able to resolve this issue but am not optimistic that they will do the right thing and behave ethically.
Response by Handyman Matters of Cherry Creek: To customer's reading the above review, Erin N was pleased with work as I have emails stating this. Our craftsmen also worked over a weekend, Saturday and Sunday included, to meet the deadline. When the above review, verbatim, was posted on google our attorney had her remove it. We have come to an agreement and unfortunately Erin N hasn't updated her review as she said she would at the end of the above paragraph.
