My backyard was in terrible condition. Ben and his crew installed sod and I now have a beautiful backyard. I highly recommend Ben.

We were very impressed by Ben's work. Replaced fence and gate that was really old. I think it looks better than it originally did.

Project: Hire a Handyman
Hire at your own risk! I hired him for a small job to work on 3 door. Door 1: install weather stripping, door 2: install weather stripping and tighten screws on hinges and door 3: install weather stripping and fix door knob (was originally installed backwards). He did not buy the weather stripping that I spoke to him about and now doors stick. I have to use my whole body to get in and out. When I pointed this out, he said it’s normal and would get better with time. I have a smart lock and now the door does not line up and the lock jams and does not automatically lock consistently. Again I pointed this out and he said that the threshold is the issue. But the lock worked perfectly before he touched the door. Door 3 no longer opens (from inside or outside) since he changed the lock. He said he would come back the next day to fix but did not show up. He came back the following day (unannounced at 7:30am) it said that he did not have the tools to fix and would be back (he also blamed me for not telling him what tools he would need). He never came back that day. I called him and he said he was having car trouble and would come the next day (he did not). This went on for another couple of days until he finally came back to fix the lock but of course it was the door that was broken. I’m still going to have to hire someone to come back and replace the weather stripping so I basically paid him to make my doors unusable.
Response by Handyman Pro: Diana Philips, project: Reverse a key entry door knob lock that was installed backwards by a family member. Continued usage of the door had caused the knob lock mechanism not to operate correctly which in turn damaged lock plate, springs, and parts inside. Because my explanation took a back seat to Ms [consumer name withheld at their request] incomprehensible understanding on why the lock mechanisms didn't work properly, hence the birth of a negative review! Diana told me that the lock was fine prior to me removing it and that I broke it after removing it and it falling apart right in front of her. Her combative attitude had made it very uncomfortable for me and even though after using my finances and having the compassion to buy new lock for her a Giana continued to accuse me of breaking the old one. hence the birth of a negative review! The new weather stripping installed yes caused the door to close tighter that yes the old broken and brittle one. Prior to removing the brittle weather stripping me and Diana had a discussion on what kind of weather stripping would best address her concerns. Diana express that the north door during severe weather, snow build up, or heavy rain, the door would take in water, causing water build up inside. Several alike items was discussed. A feathered weather stripping was mentioned however, I articulated and expressed that that particular weather stripping would not address her seeping water concern. We both then decided that the ribbed rubber weather stripping would prevent the water seepage concern. After installed, Diana again became combative, and argumentative to the point I became not only uncomfortable, but reserved in communicating with her, knowing that anything that I would say would cause her to flare up; however though, still I was thinking on how to best fit her concerns. The doors new stripping had caused the door to close tighter than before but opened ok. I offered several resolutions to this problem. The threshold was somewhat recessed so #1, I offered to symmetrically add 4 to 5 screws to the threshold that would create room for the door to close. #2, I offered to removed the middle rib of the weather stripping, leaving the outer two to make it easier to open and close. #3, I offered to just remove them. There was nothing that I could say or do to resolve or satisfy Diana. Her communicating with me seemed disingenuous at this point as I felt already uncomfortable talking with her. She acknowledge that there was nothing that I could do and I was happy to leave. Then came her negative review. Imagine a 18 year carpenter asking what tools to use to fix a door lock. Unbelievable!!! Thank you for listening Ben

Review by Paul H. in Brockton, MA
Didn't know how much grass seed to use for repair needs so had to go back to store for more which increased the job cost to a point where I would not have hired him in the first place Had to be told by store what was quality grass seed Had to be asked to put seed in a number of places he "missed" and as a result he had to up cost of job quote Half of seed put down came up Did not respond to either my or Home Advisors attempts to contact in order to fix lack of grass issue
