Business Overview

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because I was raised in country and learned how to maintain property, repair fences and many other small tasks that are required from that style of living. I later started working for a handyman that did rent readies for a property management company. Enjoying being a part of the makeover of a dwelling, I decided to work for a company that flips houses. This is where I got enough knowledge behind me and the opportunity to master some of my skills in certain areas. I Love being a part of the finish project, having the homeowner smile bacause she loves her home again..

We started in this industry in 2008.

We describe our business as Family owned and operated

Project: Hire a Handyman
Upon first meeting James & Juliet they seemed to be responsible, caring folks, so we hired them to remove drywall and windows in our home from the living room and bath so that we could remediate mold that was behind the wall and under the floor. The job was supposed to take two weeks and approximately $1200 to $1500 to finish. After getting into the job it was obvious there was a little more work than originally estimated. While we understand that some cost overruns and time frames may need to be adjusted, over ten weeks into the job now we had to sever our ties with the O'Tooles and seek other professional assistance. They adjusted our new estimate to $2200 and received $1950 to date. They never did finish reassembling the portion of the house that they worked on and two windows never even got touched. The work that was performed was sub-standard in that the patches to the wall were not fitted properly and wall plates would not cover the openings that were left around receptacles and switches. Time after time we received excuses as to why they couldn't show up for days at a time and, while we understand that unforeseen circumstances can crop up from time to time, a professional will still work through difficulties to get a job done. We feel these folks have good hearts and mean well, but as professionals we cannot recommend their services. Our recommendation to you is to hire LICENSED contractors and not a handyman service because you really have no recourse when, and if, something goes wrong. We have learned our lesson and will not hire an unlicensed contractor again.
Response by HandyWoman O'Toole - Unlicensed Contractor: It is very difficult to do work for people who don't have the funds to get the job done, in a timely manner. At the beginning Shirley stated, she has limited funds and could only pay at the beginning of the month. Breaking the projects up into sections. We meet in January, did the 1st portion. February did the 2nd, while finding rotted sub floor. Extra money, extra time. Our other jobs on hold to complete new work. March (bad month) 3rd phase, my husband is diagnosed with a stomach anurisum, we have to move, andI was hit by a car, we finished the major window. Her son yelling at me told me to leave, can't finish the job. Thanks Dave!

Female about 45 arrived, dressed very inappropriately in very short cutoffs with a tank top and everything hanging out. She had a backpack. She was told in advance that I wanted a cord to my blinds repaired yet she did not bring any cord. Obviously did not know what she was doing as it took her 15 minutes to get the blind down. She then left to go to store for cord, and did not return for about 1.5 hours. Said she liked the store and looked around. Then, for over one hour she worked on the cord, again not knowing what she was doing. Finally got a new cord on, only to be told it had a hole in it. Instead of removing the new cord and putting in another one, she sewed the hole with thread and told me to not pull it below the repaired hole or it would break. Very pleasant but very inappropriately dressed and knew nothing about what she was doing. Cost me $75 and the cord promptly broke two days later at the spot she tried to fix it. Will never use her again.
Response by HandyWoman O'Toole - Unlicensed Contractor: Thank you Winston, I did bring some cord to replace the broken cord with, but your blinds where different than the many others I have replaced. I knew that one wouldn't last, thats why I informed you not to pull from the fixed sown section of cord. Broke just the same as the last company you had come fix it. I have the new cord to replace that one just as i said i would. I understand your frustration. I hope you have better luck in the future. I will send you a refund if your that unsatisfied. And i do not where tank tops, thank you. I will where longer shorts now, did not know they were offensive. I do appreciate the rating. I am not perfect.
