I would not trust them. They think they are always right. Very hard to work with. They are very disorganized.

Service was extremely well handled. Workman always on time and efficient. Couldn't be happier with everything. Continued with followup work with this company. Highly recommended.

***THIS BUSINESS IS NOT BBB ACCREDITED as of 8/31/16*** despite what their website says, the BBB rates them and F. Please look them up on www.bbb.org for their accreditation revocation and reviews, as well as their reviews other sites such as Yelp and Google. Don't take the average rating at face value, specifically look at their negative reviews over the past year and see the pattern. Our story is sadly familiar... Contract was signed 3/28/16, down payment of $6,800 given the same day (check), and cashed the next day. We were told this project would take under 1 month to complete. After the contract was signed and the deposit was paid, the Katlia workers came to our home fewer than than 10 times in 5 months. There were several no calls and no shows. As the months went by, with very little progress, we made at least five requests for a project plan and schedule by both email and text and we never received a reply or acknowledgement of those requests. After demo and some plumbing, electric and framing work was completed, we were informed that Katlia had not submitted the paperwork for the remodeling permits, despite multiple requests by us early on. Rather than expediting the permit filing process, Katlia attempted to persuade us to skip the permit process to avoid the fees, delays and increases to our taxes. We refused, resulting in another two weeks waiting for the permits to be filed. We believe the inability to file for a permit was due to one or more of their contractors not being licensed, another indication of the lack of licensing was the use of non-compliant plumbing materials and extensive work that had to be redone to pass code inspection. In the end, we paid Katlia $11,800, and the only work done correctly was the demolition. We had to bring in a licensed contractor to assess the existing work, obtain the proper permits. rework Katlia's errors and finish our job. On 9/2/16, we requested a refund for the work that was done incorrectly, and also a refund for work not performed at all. As of 10/9/16, our request is still pending. Run. Do not do business with this this company.

    Response from Company:

It's clear our initial efforts to reach a voluntary settlement on the above-mentioned complaint has not been successful. Sometimes, despite best efforts, issues remaining unresolved can result in a loss of goodwill and possibly lead to legal actions. In an effort to assist in recovering that goodwill, the BBB® offers informal mediation. At this time, this case has been transfered to one of the BBB's highly capable informal mediators, in an effort to resolve this case. We did have a project manager who was assigned to this project quit due to a loss of a family member in another country and left abruptly which did cause delays. It's our understanding, the customer did hire another contractor to finish the project because they couldn't wait. We had hard costs that the client is responsible for and in no way is a full refund justified. We paid administration, drawing, demolition ,electrical, carpentry, costs as well as we paid for rough material such as doors, drywall and durock that was installed on floor and walls so there was much work completed and materials were delivered and paid for. We have asked on several occasions for copies of the invoices of work that was completed by the other contractor they hired and still to this date the customer refuses to turn them over. We feel that client is trying to minimize the work that has been completed. If any work that had been completed prior to inspection would not have passed it would have been rectified so the statement that client made is not accurate. We want to resolve this matter so both parties can be happy.

I hired Katlia to remodel a 25 sf bathroom. They charged me $920 per square foot for the project. It was very basic with no custom cabinets or marble. They tried to tell me this was the average cost in the Chicago area for this type of project. I have since found this is about triple what it should have cost. The project was scheduled to take seven days and it ended up taking seven weeks. It was commonplace for the workers to not show up each day. I never knew when they would come to do any work. Basically, I felt like Katlia ripped me off and did a poor job on the project. A few months ago I posted a very detailed review about my bad experience and the company was not happy with me. They actually have withheld refunding me almost $2000 of my own money that they overcharged me for materials. This review will give readers a better understanding of how this company operates. First off, I feel this company is a sham. They originally operated under the name A1 construction. They were named WORST construction company in Chicago. This is the story you can find online about them being shut down: A1 Construction of Chicagoland | Schiller Park Named one of the Worst Contractors in the country last year by well-recognized website, A1 Construction of Chicagoland is back this year as one of Chicago’s Worst. The company went out of business in November 2008 but faced a 2009 state civil lawsuit seeking more than $500,000 in penalties and restitution, and a permanent ban from the home repair trade. Court documents say the company took customer's down payments, but never did any work. The suit was settled with company secretary Vincent J. LaRocca paying a $10,000 fine and president Joseph J. Schmitz paying an $11,000 fine. No restitution or ban was imposed. Both men must advise the attorney General's office before working as contractors. Neither LaRocca nor Schmitz could be reached for comment. The company and both men have separate bankruptcies pending. Numerous civil suits against A1 and its owners also are pending. In a previously published Penalty Box case involving A1, he says the company owed him $72,000 for an unfinished remodeling job. As you can see in the article, A1 was shut down about ten years ago. They resurfaced under the name Katlia. They are notorious for taking your money and not doing any work. They have multiple lawsuits against them. They don't pay their sub contractors which may expose you to lawsuits if you make the mistake in hiring this company . I fell like they are liars. Vince, one of the owners, also uses two different last names: LaRocca and Ventura. The AG is trying to shut them down again. If you make the unfortunate mistake of hiring these folks, you may be charged $500 upon "completion" just to walk through the project to see how things were done. They call it a punch list. It seems to be a joke too. A good company shouldn't charge you money in order to verify things were do

They responded to concerns very quickly.

We Signed a contract with Katlia in January 2016. We where told that it would be finished in 4 weeks. Its now June and no work has been done and no permits where applied for. We gave a $26,000 deposit and requested a refund 2 months ago. They missed several appointments with out notice and have done no work.

    Response from Company:

The client had a contract in place and we were preparing to start the project. The client put the project on hold and shortly there after they informed us they sold their home and wanted to cancel the contract. We are in the process of issuing the client a refund and this matter will be resolved.

They did our roof and we couldn't be happier. It went smooth and the process was very easy.

    3.0 Karen R. Schaumburg, IL

I signed the contract with VInce at Katlia on 4/25/15, the job was supposed to take 2 weeks after demo and it took 6 weeks for a partial bathroom remodel in a one bedroom, one bath condo. There was a lot of miscommunication between the project coordinator and the actual worker and I had to constantly call or text the coordinator for updates. When the work was near completion she sent a different worker who did sloppy work. They had to send the first one back to fix what the 2nd worker did. I am still not happy how the marble countertop looks. The remanent slab that I picked was shiny like the granite but that is not what was installed. I am also not happy with how the backsplash looks. It is rectangle pieces of glass and stone and the 2nd worker did not use non-sanded grout like the 1st worker suggested. There are spaces in between the glass and stone. The project coordinator and the supervisor of the workers came to look at my bathroom because I had a list of a dozen items that were done very sloppy. They told me that is how the countertop and backsplash is supposed to look. I disagree. Today my toilet paper holder is loose on one side. After the bathroom was completed I did not hear from the project coordinator even though I still owed $1,000. I waited 2 weeks and then e-mailed her for a final bill or an invoice that said paid in full because I did not want a lien slapped on my property. After another week I e-mailed her again and finally got a final bill. I had a couple of friends that are interested in having their bathroom remodeled but after they heard my story they aren't interested in hiring Katlia

I contracted Katlia to replace 8 of my windows. I elected to go with the ENPS window for energy efficiency. The sales estimate process was easy, and the sales rep was incredibly polite. The project team was excellent to work with. They assisted in measurements and had a project manager onsite to supervise installation. I am very pleased and would recommend them if you are looking for a window installation. Thumbs up Katlia!
