I bought 2 smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for an office building but was having a problem replacing the one that were already installed. I decided to leave it up to an electrician. My instructions were to install the two units I bought plus bring two more for another floor, since they were all the same age. The service was fast but the results were less than desirable. They did not install the units I bought but installed their units and charged me $60 per unit times 4. When I asked where the units I bought were, I was told they were put under the receptionist's desk in the office and that she was told about them. She claims they are not there and she wasn't told about them. I wasn't there to see any of this but I know and trust the receptionist. Ken then offered to pay half of what the units cost me that I bought. A word to the wise, be present when the work is being done so you can see what is going on.
Response by Kenneth R. Jean, Inc: (consumer name withheld per their request) detectors were combination smoke (Ionization, not approved in Mass.) and carbon monoxide detectors. As he was concerned about being unprotected I went up there personally and added 4 combination smoke (Photo electric, approved in Mass) and carbon monoxide detectors. I spoke with the woman at the front desk and while I told her what I was doing with them while I was actually putting them under this large front desk, all the way to the left when viewed from the front door. Although I also have no reason to doubt her honesty as she was very pleasant, I certainly have no idea what happened to them after I left but I certainly have no interest in obtaining 2 detectors that are of no use to me as they do not conform to Mass. Code requirements. In an effort to avoid bad feelings I offered to split whatever cost he said he was out. He did not reply but rather felt the need to discredit my thirty year company as well as myself by this posting over an extremely small amount of money

Ken and his crew are a great group of guys. I was selling a 100+ year old two family house that needed to have old wiring removed and new installed in a very short timeframe. They were timely, very professional, did a great job and everything was clean and neat when they were done. I will definitely recommend Ken to others in the future.

Project: Install Electrical Switches, Outlets, and Fixtures
Ken was very pleasant and came to evaluate the project the same day we connected. He was timely and we stayed in contact until he was able to schedule in the job. Steve was also timely and efficient. He did everything on my list and explained what would have to be done to correct things if issues continued. Steve was extremely careful with my appliances and did an awesome and thorough job.

They charged me $200.00 for a 45 minute service. I had checked with another electrician after the work was done and he told me I had been ripped off, he would have done the job for $70.00! I let the company know of my dis-satisfaction and instead of offering to refund some of my money, he pretty much said you knew ahead of time what we charged, so oh well....I had mentioned to him in my letter that I had no idea what other electricians charged and I had assumed his rate was a standard in the industry. Anyway, they fixed my problem, but it probably cost them $15.00 in parts and $185 profit for 40 minutes of work.
Response by Kenneth R. Jean, Inc: I think Ms Carole D is leaving out significant facts and is extremely mistaken in our costs as it pertains to our service. The fact is that I personally spent time with her explaining that the minimum charge is $200.00 for a service call to her home. She not only agreed to that charge she was effusive with her praise to the licensed electrician who performed the service. Some days later she sent me an email to express dissatisfaction with the price. I explained in a return email that if she remembers I clearly described exactly what the cost would be. I inquired was the electrician clean polite and professional? Was he knowledgeable in his trade and did he explain everything to your satisfaction as he went? Did he have everything needed with him to complete the job? Did he clean up after himself and were you comfortable with him in your home? Although she did not reply to any of these questions she did go on to make this complaint post that I made a $185.00 profit on a $200 service call. Let's break that down. Home Advisor charges us anywhere's from $20 to $60 just for the call. The licensed, professional electrician is not cheap either, nor should they be after having put 8 years of study not to mention on the job training, just to have three chances to pass a State test with an extremely high failure rate. If they fail to pass in three attempts they either start over or find a new trade. Of course they get paid for time they spend driving to and from Carole D's home in Townsend, MA. The van they drive in is worth about $60K with stock and tools not to mention gas and maintenance. She is obviously not familiar with business insurance, cost for liability, workers comp, auto and corporate sales tax. If Ms. Carole D's intention was to be fair and she had taken a minute to review these items she may have understood that this was a no profit job for us. Rather she chose to post this complaint for 4.0 quality. With a 0.5 customer service as with a 0.5 value for the money. As for her unnamed "electrician" that said he would have done it for $70/hr......I'll leave that to you. As to our emails with her.... I keep them within easy reach to remind me should I ever forget Carole D in Townsend, MA
