Review by Meredith R. in Williston, TN
Project: Remodel a Bathroom
This was, by far, the worst experience we have ever had with a contractor. I don't see how they could have ever gotten anything more than a one-star review. If I could give them zero stars, I would. Here is the short version of what happened, all of which we can prove with photos, texts, and emails: We hired Lasco through the “Good Contractor List” (who refused to intervene on our behalf because they only guarantee the “finished product”) on 10/20/2017 to do a bathroom remodel, at which time we gave them a check for 1/2 of the cost of the project ($6145.37) which we were told was going to be used to order supplies. Several measurements and details of the job were discussed with Mike LeRoy at this meeting, yet somehow, over the next FIVE MONTHS measurements had to be repeated multiple times (which supposedly delayed ordering supplies) and details had to be covered over and over again (for which we told there would be additional charges for “custom options” even though we were clear about what we wanted from the first meeting). We were told that they would start our project "the week before Thanksgiving” and they told us it would take "1 and a half to 2 weeks" to complete. We did not hear a word from them until several days after we repeatedly called/emailed the week after Thanksgiving. The project manager, Chris Pendola, (who was never there during any of the actual work) did not even come do the preconstruction meeting until 12/1/2017, at which time he again took measurements and we again discussed the details of the tile design and countertops. Chris told us at this meeting that since their manufacturer has a 2-week lead-time for cabinets, he was going to go ahead and get them ordered. We were committed to going out of town from 12/9 - 12/17/2017, which would not have been a problem if they had started on time. Chris said they could not start before we left and that since Lasco “is closed for vacation” for the entire last two weeks of December, they would have to start "right after the first of the year". We reached out several times before the end of the year but did not get any response until we finally got Mike on the phone 1/2/2018. He said that we were the "the next job" and they would be at our house to start the project on Friday, 1/12/2018. On 1/11/2018 Mike emailed me, writing, "I've just been informed that the crew we planned on putting on your project will not be done tomorrow. We have another crew that will be done earlier and be able to start next week. Sorry for the delay." On 1/15/2018 two workers finally showed up and completely demolished the bathroom (removed the shower, sinks, and toilet, so the bathroom was not usable). We were then informed that, when they removed the existing shower stall, there was "a large sink hole that our house might fall into" under the shower that would need to be filled before they could proceed. Even though this was actually a crawl space from a foundation repair in 2014, I was told that they would not resume any work until the foundation company came out because Lasco “had never seen anything like this before”. They told us that they had to "pour a new shower pan before moving forward", which they could not do until the "sink-hole" was fixed. The foundation company came out on 1/22/2017 and reassured Mike that the type of repair we have is a "suspended slab on cable anchored steel piers that are 14-16 feet deep under the house”, essentially making our house pier-and-beam. Over the next 2 MONTHS (again, during which time we did not have a working bathroom) workers showed up sporadically and did only small amount of work. Mike and Chris did not answer emails or texts and did not return phone calls. The project was not completed until 3/16/2018! Even at that time, there were gouges in the sheetrock from where the previous sink had been removed and uneven stain on the c...

Chris was a joy to work with. He listened to our needs, suggesting coordinating materials and surfaces, he knew the things that had to be done, and he selected competent and experienced subcontractors who did quality work quickly.
