Reviews
Write a ReviewI hired Dan to finish my basement. He was very responsive and knowledgeable. Did top quality work. He also has an artistic flair and always thinks from the point of view of the homeowner.
Dan is a trustworthy, hardworking, and talented carpenter who can really do it all. He did everything from knocking down a half wall to moving our toilet to installing new light fixtures. He is very creative and it is fun to discuss house renovation plans with him. It s even neater to see his plan come about!
I hired Dan to remodel my master bath which extended to a second bath and kitchen. Needless to say, my wife and I were pleased with the work and final product.Dan was easy to work with and always offered good advice.
My associates and I are in the final stages of completing construction of a high-end residential home. A few months ago we identified some isolated issues in framing that needed to be addressed and hired Maltby Construction. Dan Maltby and his team did a great job on correcting this specific problems and we then went on to use them on various other projects such as tiling and a magnificent job on a pair of fireplace mantles. His craftsmanship and attention to detail has played an integral role in the high-end quality of our soon to be completed project. Dan knows the business well and has given us valuable advice when we are looking at design and logistical consideration alternatives. He has made numerous time sacrifices and has gone out of his way in helping us complete this project on time. His knowledge of the NJ Building Code was instrumental in helping us in making sure our Township inspections went smoothly. Finding contractors that are both skilled and trustworthy is kind of like trying to find a great auto mechanic. Once you find a good one you want to go back to them again and again because of their skill, honestly, and integrity. This is exactly what we found with Dan and his team at Maltby Construction. I will continue to use them extensively. I would strongly recommend Maltby Construction to anyone looking for an honest contractor that does top notch work.
Dan did a full remodel to our kitchen which hadnt been touched in 30 years. He knocked down a wall, demo'd, installed new floors, an island, new lights, wainscoting, custom built-in open shelving, painted, new ductwork, farm sink, backsplash, hood vent, literally, everything. He is a jack of all trades and provides quality workmanship in each of the individual projects that he does. The custom open shelving he did looks amazing as does the crown and tile. Dan also is only a text or phone call away and exceeded my expectations in terms of responsiveness and communication (which is rare in contractors these days). We went over daily what was going on in the reno, progress, next steps, etc. We ran into a lot of unforeseen issues and Dan was willing to work with us, explain to us what needed to be fix, and get our signoff before he made any changes or started work that wasnt previously budgeted. He had creative solutions for a lot of our problems and it was good to work together to figure out how we wanted our dream kitchen to look. He also came back a full month after the project was done when we noticed some odds and ends which werent buttoned up (small piece of flooring needed to be sanded, faucet was a bit loose) I would absolutely hire him again for an array of projects around our house, he's proven not only that he is very skilled in different trades, but his pricing is competitive, he is responsive, and very easy to work with.
The guys came quickly in between Christmas and New Years, when most others would take off for the holidays. They did quality work, with a pleasant, customer friendly attitude, for a fair price. I would highly recommend them and will certainly call again for future projects.
Dan is extremely pleasant and easy to work with. He did complete renovation to all three of our bathrooms. He took the time to explain every step, and showed all the progress along the remodel. He also took the effort to acknowledge our needs, and came up with ways to address them. As we picked a relatively more complicated shower system, Dan spent the time to read the instructions to make sure things were done correctly. He even helped us pick up tiles from the tile store. I also appreciate that he made a very detailed itemized quote, and every adjustment was presented as a print out.
I used (Dan) Maltby Construction to put a cathedral ceiling with exposed beams and a 4' x 4' skylight in my living room, transforming what was a very ordinary living room into a fantastic performance space and piano lounge. The work he did was outstanding, with top notch craftsmanship and materials and exceptional attention to details. There were a lot of decisions to be made during the construction process, and Dan worked with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted--my happiness truly was his focus. He had many excellent suggestions for me along the way, including the wrapping of a previously-wallboard-clad 4"x4" vertical beam in the same cabinet quality plywood he wrapped the spectacular exposed beams in. And the end results are truly awesome, the room a beautiful space for my piano with acoustics warm and live, and an ambience which is exactly what I'd hoped for. Dan also proved invaluable to me by recommending, among other things, a top-notch granite provider for my kitchen counters, a roofer for fixing a small leak around an unneeded vent, a backpack leaf blower for maintaining the heavily wooded lot surrounding my piano lounge in the forest, and numerous tools, materials and techniques for my many upcoming DIY projects (those not really needing a contractor of Dan's quality). So as you can tell, communication with Dan was also top shelf. Yes, and he also took care of all the permitting and inspections (no problems encountered, by the way) and working with my architect as well. I hired Dan to install hardwood flooring in a dining room that had previously been carpeted. He did a good job, gave me a fair price, and completed the job in a timely manner.
