Appliance (Microwave Oven) - Install or Replace
Mr. Martinell was very responsive to questions and was very knowledgeable in the installation of the over the range microwaves. He worked diligently and was completed everything wanted on the installation. We were extremely satisfied with his work and professionalism. He will be requested on all of the projects we have if it falls within his expertise.

Nick Martinell did a great job with our refrigerator repair. He was able to give me an appointment the day after I first spoke with him. Then, he diagnosed the problem, got the part we needed, and repaired our fridge all in the same day... at a great price. We will definitely hire him for future projects.

Nick installed a new mailbox for me. Work was fine. He was supposed to come by and do another job for me on Saturday, but never showed up or called. Finally I got an e-mail from him stating something about his phone wasn't working.

He's a nice kid but not only does he have poor time management, the quality of his work is absolutely the worse. I wish I could post pics. I hired him to replace the trim around 3 porch columns and a piece of wood trim at a window. The first day he scheduled to begin work, his truck broke down. The second day he showed up, pulled the trim off one column and instead of informing me the wood was rotten, he just replaced the trim but it caused the column to drop from its ceiling-now I have a big gap at the top and the still attached porch railings are slanted. Of course I want the rotten wood replaced and asked if he could complete the repairs the next day. The next day he shows up 3.5 hours late with deck joists! My husband went out and bought the correct wood! Nick then SAWS off my porch railings and attempts to close the new gap with 1/2" caulk and very visible screws. Besides being late, he leaves for hours, leaving tools and old wood with nails sticking up in mine and my neighbors yards. He also left a container of open paint with a ceiling length roller in it just before a big storm rolled in. I moved it so it wouldn't wind up on my sidewalk and garden. Then he shows up at 9:30pm during that storm to finish work while using an umbrella. Just unbelievably unprofessional and beyond poor quality. I have 4 deck joists now, out 450$ Plus the wood my husband bought and still have to hire someone to repair what Martinell did to my porch. This was my first Home Advisor experience and I will not trust this website again.
Response from Martinell Construction
"You were aware of the wood rot because your husband stated to me about raising the column because it had shifted when I wasn't on the job. Instead of paying to replace all the columns that were rotted you just wanted me to fix that one. Your son told me to buy pressure treated wood , with that being said and the customer always being right it limits the dimensions of wood I can purchase in that form.As for being late I had stated to you that evening that I had previous jobs and would be there AFTER 1 pm. As for the railing that 1/2 inch gap was from the previous trim that was installed which was particle board (interior trim). The tools and wood which I had checked and left nails down before I left , It was only supposed to be a short trip to lowes to which I got caught in a torrential downpour delaying me further due to lack of driving visibility. I showed up at 9:30 after said torrential downpour to clean up what I had left out and to make sure the paint and or caulk wasn't running or damaged, NO WORK WAS DONE AT THAT TIME (other than cleaning). I had called you once I cleaned up the job site because it was apparent you had just gotten home and that stuff and been shifted, to which I get no response till the next day saying come back on Monday. Monday comes around with the job 10 mins away from being completed and backed out of the job and wanted to pay for what I had completed, to which they did."

Nick's work quality is great. I was very pleased with him work. "BUT" his time management has much to be desired. Took him to long to complete the project, trying to work to many projects at the same time. Again his work is great, and his fees are fair, but I would rather pay a little more if the time management was better.
Response from Martinell Construction
"It was a 4th of july weekend which delayed the project to only ONE DAY (4 hour work day) to wait for the siding supplier to open up (84 lumber), coupled with an idiot subcontractor that stole your siding sample out of my pickup truck bed. I also had to fix 2 consecutive flat tires on my vehicle delaying me further for 1 day. You not only tried to steal my employee to find someone to do cheaper work but clearly contradicted yourself here, because when I had completed the work you stated to me that you would re-hire me to finish the rest of your basement and install a sump pump. I do not admire your two faced personality and lies."

****NO LICENCE WITH HOME ADVISOR***Nick came to my home and did a few odd jobs I needed done after an home inspection. He said he could do the job and that he would email a receipt with his licence information. This was important for the buyers of my home to have. He repaired a window screen (charged 50 bucks but he put the screen with a hole back into the new screen frame. A frame cost $10 at home depot and a roll of screen is about the same but I had to have a licence person do the work.) caulked the front of a sit-in bath (which a few hours later the tile came out). He was going to also look for a shower door and some siding for me and be back a few days later. On the day I was expecting him no show/no call. He texted at 10 pm saying sorry he forgot he "was suppose to come yesterday" asked to reschedule. I texted back and reminded him the appointment was for today not yesterday. Gave him another try again no show/no call. I've been calling and texting for days asking for a License number because it wasn't on his receipt. I have not received another call or text from him. I just called Home Advisor and they don't have a licence for him b/c VA doesn't require one. Nick is nice, cool person but as a business this place is a joke. Nick is young and I don't think understands what it means to be professional.

Handyman for Multiple Small Projects
Both handymen (Nicholas and CJ) were here on time and worked effectively and efficiently through work projects (fixing loose hanging outside shutter and various re-grouting/caulking repair jobs). Both were most professional and skilled in their workmanship. Outstanding efforts and most reasonable pricing for work and materials performed. Will use them again in future for any new handyman-type of jobs around my house.
