They showed up on time, did a good job, and stayed within the estimate. If I have future roofing problems, I will call on them again.

This company received a half star only because I could not leave them without any. We originally had the salesman from Poplar out to get on estimate on roofing-which was extremely expensive. The salesman made several phone calls and home visits trying to win our business. We decided on waiting on the roof but gave in to letting Poplar replace our gutters. They were a bit more expensive than other places, but we heard a great sales pitch about the quality of their work and how the crew cleans up afterwards thus convincing us to hire them. The crew that showed up wasn't even Poplar construction, but rather a 3rd party crew contracted to do the work. We had left instructions both with our salesman and the crew regarding how we wanted the down spout installed in the front of our house. Three times we told 3 different people and it was not done the way we had asked. The gutters in the front of our home are pitched horribly and the view from the front of our home now looks like they are falling off. Not to mention, we spent the next week afterwards picking up nails in our driveway and old gutter clips lying everywhere around our house (so much for the sales pitch about the clean up). We were supposed to have leaf guards installed in the top most part of our tri-level home. The crew left without installing the leaf guards stating they would be back. That was 2 weeks ago....no phone call or any word from this company since. Even more ironic-the salesman who was so insistent on calling and visiting-haven't heard a peep from him in 2 weeks either. If I could stop payment on this company I would. The front of my home looks absolutely horrible as if it's been neglected and falling apart. When your home looks better before paying out money to "fix" it than afterwards, something needs to be done about the company at fault. I would not recommend this company to build a dog house at this point. Beware !!!!..Update...This is my 3rd review of this company. The ifrst wasnt favorable, the 2nd was posted as favorable due to the fact they were trying to fix their mistakes. Now, as of May 9th 2018 (2 months after this project was started) Poplar HAS NOT finished the job. TERRIBLE material along with poor workmanship. Can't say much for the people they hire. If there was a way to upload pictures of their TERRIBLE work, I would do so!! Tired of getting excuses as to why this is not completed!!
Response by Poplar Roofing & Construction, LLC:
Poplar Roofing & Construction takes concerns from our clients very seriously. But there are simply so many inaccuracies in the above review that we as a company are very frustrated by these untrue statements and exaggerations. We are a roofing company. We first received a HomeAdvisor request for a roof estimate for this client, but were told upon arrival (before providing a roof estimate), that the customer wanted only gutters. We explained it best to wait for new gutters until after a new roof, whenever that might be. We were not aggressive in our sales practices. But the homeowner had just purchased the house, disliked the sun-faded gutters, and insisted on gutters before the roof. We accepted the job. To our knowledge, there is no roofing company in Terre Haute that uses their roofers to install gutters. Terre Haute has several seamless gutter companies, and we partner with the best - one that has been in business since the 1960s. We are upfront and clear about this to our clients. Because of the volume of roof work we do (many roof customers ask for gutters), our gutter partners performs as many as 5 gutter jobs a week for us. They are contracted to perform all our gutter jobs, just as a homebuilder might have his routine excavator or plumber. They are not a random "3rd party." And because our primary business is roofing, we rarely mark-up gutter prices or make anything ourselves on gutter jobs. We perform gutter jobs with our partner as a service to customers who want one-stop shopping. This client says he told 3 people how he wanted the gutter installed. At the time of gutter installation, he and his wife had only met or ever spoken to one of our employees. The initial dissatisfaction with the new gutters was that they were "hung too low" making the old drip edge (trim that draws water from the roof to the gutters) more visible. The homeowners said the old drip edge made their roof look old and unmaintained. The roof was old and unmaintained. And the wood decking under the roof was rotting, because the old gutters had been hung too high by a previous gutter company. When gutters are hung to high, they do hide the drip edge, but they also push up on the roof, causing roof problems. These customers bashed us for doing the work properly, without themselves understanding how gutters, drip edge and roofing work together to keep a house dry. Part of the above review is from that initial day. They asked us to raise the gutters back to their original height. We warned them against it, but they insisted. A few weeks later, they called us about the roof leaking near the eaves. This was because we had followed their request to hang the gutters high again - against our recommendation. We pulled up some shingles and were able to show them rotted wood and even holes in the decking that had clearly existed for years. The favorable review below from 2/27/18 explains what happened next, highlighting the homeowners' satisfaction with how we handled the matter and subsequently installed their roof. Several weeks after the roof installation, the homeowner said he could see a wave in some of the aluminum fascia we installed on the east side of his house, but only when he stood in a certain place in his yard at sunrise. This is extremely common with any aluminum fascia, and this color - "royal brown" - is notorious among metal workers and those who wrap windows, fascia etc., as showing every minor detail in sunlight. We returned to the home several times in attempts to adjust this fascia to their satisfaction. At the time of the last negative review, the roof work was complete. We were simply waiting on a busy specialist (Vigo County's top aluminum installer for decades) to come look at the home. He made minor adjustments to the fascia and explained the issues with royal brown aluminum to the homeowner, who have since seemed satisfied. But, of course, no updated review.

We had some issues with new gutters installed, but the owner, Matt, and the salesman, Phil, worked with us to get these issues resolved to our satisfaction. We then went forward in hiring Poplar to install our new roof. They had our old roof torn down and our new roof installed in 1 day. Their work and clean up was exceptional. We would definitely highly recommend Poplar and would hire again for other work.
