Sherlock Homes Inspection Co. is my small business, and I am an unbiased home inspector. My mission is to bring you an honest, detailed, and timely report so you can make the most informed decision and feel at peace with your investment. Servicing the greater Atlanta area, my work is meticulous and methodical with an emphasis on customer service. I use the latest technologies to survey and investigate every system and component of your home to ensure there are no defects or hazards. Your home is the one place where you and your family should always have peace of mind, and when you hire Sherlock Homes Inspection Co, that's exactly what you get. I don't over schedule or cut inspections short like the big companies, because when you hire me, my time belongs to you. Long after I have delivered your report, I still make myself available to answer questions, give contractor referrals, or even help with more cost effective DIY solutions. When you hire me, you are treated like family.

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because my wife and I had a horrible experience when we purchased our first home. The big inspection company we hired sent an over-worked inspector who rushed through our inspection and missed so many crucial details that we ended up spending thousands of dollars in remediation and repairs. I decided then that I wanted to provide my community with the level of service and expertise that it was clearly missing. I love the detail oriented nature of the inspection business; but more than that, I love helping people by providing a much needed service that saves families from being surprised by undue financial hardship.

Community Involvement

I do free inspections for Non-Profit housing organizations as well as churches.

I donate a percentage of all inspections to the continuing education of underprivileged youth.

I participate in town hall meetings to bring awareness to residential maintenance to preserve the property values in my community.

David Vaughn from Sherlock Homes Inspected my condo with professional and expertise. He was easy to communicate with on the phone as well as by email. He talked me through the process of the inspection and provided a thorough review with documentation the same day of the inspection. His process is guided by the standard of excellence and by the regulatory codes. He explained all of his findings and gave recommendations for how to update, repair, or replace items that needed attention. His inspection helped me to make an informed decision on the purchase offer of my condo.

David was super knowledgeable and pretty much gave me a crash course in home inspection. He gave me great guidance on what to look for in a home and he works super hard to be as efficient as possible. It was only bc of him that I was able to make an educated decision about the home I bought and I was happy with my decision. He's great at what he does.. hire him asap!

We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
