Project: Repair a Portable Generator
The young man who answered our request was very polite, prompt, and honest, but he didn't have any idea how to repair our generator. We've been forced to take it to a shop. We were very disappointed.
Response by Shoreline Electric: Generator repairs aren't in my scope of work and I had to get that straight with Homeadvisor so they wouldn't send me anymore of those jobs. I did attempt to fix it. I checked the spark plug,oil,gas and the carburetor but it was beyond that. So I did have an idea but I didn't have the means to tear the generator apart because it's not my specialty. I did however transport the generator and a lawnmower to a repair shop for them because they don't own a truck. Really disappoints me that they'd give me a low review after doing that for them.

This guy was very unethical. He insisted on NOT providing a written contract, stating the job was so small that it wasn't required. The service had to be done in two stages. He took the full payment after the first stage and then said I would have to pay more for him to come back and complete it. He damaged my finished walls beyond what was necessary to get the job done and ran the wires on top of the rafters that would be receiving a floor so I had to reroute the wires through the rafters myself. The city inspector at the rough-in inspection told me that his work, though to code, involved some of the worst professional practices he'd ever seen. I believe that if I was a man he would have not tried to scam me like this. Shame on me for not insisting on a written agreement and for being alone in the house with this guy. I felt afraid to confront him about his change in price and the quality of his work because he was so aggressive when he told me he'd need more money to come back and finish his work. I still need this job completed but I am wary of using Home Advisor for recommendations.
Response by Shoreline Electric: I in no way insisted not using a contract. She wanted the work done asap which I did the following day. She's the one who said not to worry about a contract. And I reduced my original price by 800 dollars. The service I provided for her/kitchen remodel does have to be done in 2 stages. The city has to do an electrical rough- in inspection to look at the wire before the walls can be covered and then a final inspection when switches outlets and fixtures are installed which requires a second trip to complete. That's how construction goes and she acted like she understood that when I explained it to her and accepted that there was going to be a

Feels like I was overcharged for the work that was actually done (5-10 minutes in my house).
Response by Shoreline Electric: This customer had a circuit that had no power. I informed the customer when I spoke to him on the phone that the fee would be $175 to come out and fix the problem. So I came out and the customer had a GFCI receptacle that was tripped out. Not my fault he didn't know that. Regardless I lived up to my end of the agreement and rightfully charged him what he agreed upon.
