Project: Demolish and Remove Structures
I hired Sin Cal to remove my chimney from the center of the house, pile the debris on the side of the house, patch the hole in the roof. They removed the chimney efficiently. They could have protected the floors and remaining house space better. When getting the estimate they stated the floors would be protected. During the removal they mainly protected hallways. They did wipe down the floors, which removed some of the soot. It started to snow, so they put plywood on the roof opening with liquid nails that did not set completely. The patch is temporary, but a tarp would have kept the water out better. The part that was most disappointing and unexplained by them is how they left my front lawn and deck. Large chunks of chimney debris and shingles were left on the lawn and deck. When called they said they would come back Friday to clean up, but no one showed. Part of the work is doing the job, the other part is how you leave a person s home when finished.

You and I spoke and were able to discuss the miscommunication on tasks that happened with the contractor. As we certainly did not intend to no call no show, as the contractor told us "never mind it's not that bad". We did have drop clothes throughout your home and in all the hallways. We performed a temporary patch on the roof because once the roof was opened all your plywood was rotted and needed to be replaced before laying new shingles. In addition, by the time your chimney was removed, it was snowing quite hard and we had limited options. You were absolutely correct about the deck and we did return to clean that up. At the same time, we addressed the temporary hold on the roof from the day it was snowing. We thank you for the opportunity to serve you and appreciate everyone coming to an understanding on the miscommunication.

I was very pleased with the chimney inspection, cleaning work and installation of new piping for the wood stove. Ample time was spent by the tech during the inspection and cleaning process. He also inspected and cleaned out the wood stove which I had not expected. Heidi in the office was great to work with and the tech that came out was very thorough and did quality work. I will certainly work with Sin Cal again in the future.

Project: Clean and Inspect a Chimney or Fireplace
Never blocked off the area while they cleaned. Now I have soot on everything in my basement.

Your situation was quite unique in that the furnace company had already taken 3, 5 gallon buckets of soot and debris from your chimney before we even arrived. Our technicians had 2 vacuums running, drop cloths and protective gear. Plus we were there for 4 hours and didn't charge you the extra that we should have for a blockage removal, we only charged for a standard sweep. We removed an additional 3 buckets on top of what the furnace company removed. Needless to say your chimney was very dirty. Due to the puff back that your dirty chimney caused and the blockage in your flue, your basement had a large amount of soot in it before we arrived on scene. Your chimney is in need of repair from the lack of maintenance and we hope that, even if not with us, you have these repairs done. They are a safety concern. We also recommend having a chimney cap installed to help prevent future debris and trimming back your tree. Please make sure to have your annual chimney inspections performed in the future, as it states in the NFPA 211. Thank you!
