Project: Build or Install a Concrete Swimming Pool
From the detailed sales presentation by Daniel, along with beautifully computer generated renderings (which were awesome), to the weekly updates from Christina, Keri, and Angela, as well as Bruce visiting the site overseeing technical items and keeping everything moving smoothly, to the finished product, we have been very pleased with the entire process. Telephone calls and questions were answered/returned promptly. But the best part… the projected completion date- from dig date- was 12 to 16 weeks. Our completion, from dig date, was 11 weeks and 6 days. We have had an excellent experience with Skyler Pools and Spas, Inc. and would definitely contract them again for any and all future pool needs.

No company is perfect but Skyler stood by their work did the right thing in the end and that is what matters most.

I've revised this review due to the experiences I had after the pool was completed. Please see my other review of this company before making your decision to use Skyler Pools. Within a few months after the pool was completed we had several issues concerning the quality of the materials and sub contractors. Our first issue was a cracked spillway which we had to fight to get replaced. Our next issue was the Main Drain. This drain was not installed correctly leaving it not flush with the surface of the Diamond Brite. This also took several phone calls to get fixed. The next issue we had was the Deck. The sub contractor they used was by far not very good. While they did come back to fix some bad cuts I still have a cracked paver, which Bruce told me to mark for replacement. This is still marked and never replaced!! In addition to the paver issue my deck is now sinking. Their contract states they will backfill the pool in "lifts". This was not done and in return my deck is now sinking. When I contacted Bruce about this he told me that since I'm one month past the year warranty they gave me that it would cost me $250.00 to fix. Seriously... after a $37,000 pool you're going to charge me to fix this? This is where a good company will stand out from others that are there to only take your money which Skyler did. One last problem I have is the LED lighting. This was also installed improperly causing water to enter the fixture. Once again we were told we're one month past the warranty. When asked who built my pool, I tell them but encourage them to use Pool Builders or Parkwood. Future pool owners beware of Skyler.

We were very impressed with the renderings and Richard, our salesperson, which is why we chose Skyler. RIchard promised to always take care of any problems that arose. Skyler was on time with the building of the pool and we had no complaints at first. Then when we started having issues and that's when you learn about a company....when things go wrong. We know sometimes things happen and that is just a fact of life but the way they handled those problems frankly, sucked. First, our spillway from the hot tub into the pool was not rounded as the rendering showed and as we approved the plans. Once it was installed, it cracked within a couple of months. When we called to have it replaced, their response was less than favorable. We could no longer get in touch with Richard by phone and getting through to Bruce was like pulling teeth. They promised to send someone out to take a look and no one came...that's when the excuses started. After going back and forth for several months about it, they finally agreed to replace the spillway but were uninterested in making it round as we were promised. They told us that it would be an extra $200-$300 more even though that is what the original rendering showed. We had to go to Riviera Beach to choose the stone. FInally they agreed to replace it and to round it. We then had an issue with the main drain not being installed correctly; it was not flush at the bottom of the pool and would cut your foot when you stepped on it. Again, someone was supposed to come out and check it and no one showed up and Skylar seemed annoyed when we would call to get it straight. Finally after a couple of months, they did send someone out to take care of that as well. We had some issues with our deck not being installed properly and some of the tiles had cracks in them. Bruce told us to mark the cracked ones and he would have someone take care of that. We are now 1 year and 7 months in and still no one has ever come to check the cracking. Just slightly over the one year mark, the deck began sinking. The pool was not back filled properly and this is what is causing that. We called Bruce to have him come out and take care of it but because we were past the one year warranty, he could no longer help us free of charge. This was something that happened due to poor workmanship on their part and we feel he should stand by his $37,000.00 pool that he sold us. On top of it all, the LED light inside the pool wasn't installed properly, therefore causing water to get into it and now the pool lights don't work. Again, Skylar's stand is that it is past our warranty and therefore, not their responsibility. Had we known before we did business with them that they were going to take such a hands off approach after they got our money, we would have taken that money to another company. We are disappointed to say the least.

Total process took about 3 months (through a very rainy spring). Alan W. did an outstanding design job for our back yard/house. We were very pleased with the overall job, Great care was taken with all phases. All the subcontractors also did outstanding jobs and were obviously quite skilled at each phase they worked on.

Review by a homeowner in Boca Raton, FL
12 months and our pool isn't finished. Paid in full months ago, we have unresolved issues with the deck & pool surface, 2 broken jets. travertine pavers are low quality, have numerous imperfections ; crooked lines , broken pavers , many with chipped corners, holes, & its pitched wrong so water collects outside our home. They've replaced a few pavers but made a minimal difference. Owner Bruce refuses to address this. The pool finish was done poorly , blotchy , rough, bumpy. pool needs to be resurfaced. we are concerned it won't be done right again. Very stressful & disappointed.
Response by Skyler Pools and Spas, Inc.: Travertine is a natural stone, not man made and imperfections are part of the natural beauty of the stone. We have a beautiful showroom and the client saw the material before purchasing in the showroom. The material in the showroom is the same quality as was installed on his property. We have replaced 30 pavers and are going to replace 6 more that have cracked. We have also offered to redo the entire inside of the pool. We have made arrangements to replace the mosaics and the diamond brite finish. The applicator and Skyler Pools gives a one year warranty on product application. We stand behind our work and the work of our subcontractor.

Project: Build or Install a Concrete Swimming Pool
Skyler Pools is a one man company comprised of Bruce Davis. He was priced well versus the other companies, and was the only one of the three I spoke to who brought his brain to the initial meeting. He asked questions, as though he was trying to figure out why I wanted certain things, so he could suggest a smarter/cheaper solution that would serve the same end result. He dissuaded me from some ideas that the others were willing to do, ideas I now think would have ultimately been stupid. I would HIGHLY recommend him without reservation. And I love the pool.

Bruce, the Owner, was a delight in working with him. He is very professional and was able to give a timeline for completion of work. If work was delayed, like in my case because of the city permitting. He was professional in giving me updates of changes. In regards to pool details he was instrumental in helping me choose items that were great and needed. He was helpful in suggesting a great pool layout, tiles and coping. Upon little construction snags. Bruce and his team corrected the snags and kept on the timeline he set for completion of the pool. I highly recommend working with Skyler Pools, you will not be disappointed.
