I had the unfortunate experience of hiring Solid Ground to do a basement remodel and it was plagued with problems from the start. What was originally agreed to and signed off on was deemed by the builder to be my wish list and he would not live up to the agreement unless I gave him more money. When I asked him to return my down payment, he refused. Rather than lose the considerable money, after much discussion, we finally came up with an agreement to start the project. What I got was this, his company failed the city electrical inspection multiple times, I had to hire an outside electrician to fix flaws and assist where they had failed. Every step of the way was a struggle with arguments on their interpretation of the contract, such as their interpretation of what waterproof drywall to entire basement means, or disagreements on the agreed upon size of the bathroom, or where they tried to charge more for labor because the shower tiles planned were subway, or added costs because they do not know how to install a frameless shower or charging over $1400.00 to go from a ½ drywall to 5/8 for the home theater walls because they said they would have to bring in another company to perform this work, they did not, and used their own guys. Because of the complexity of the sound deadening necessary for the home theater, addendums were a part of the project, as we learned and I instructed them the best ways possible to achieve my goal. I paid all payments and addendums on time as the project proceeded; yet I had to ask repeatedly during the process for lien releases for payments made along the way, Solid Ground failed to do this until the very last payment. Addendums I had paid for such as LED lights, trim, painting of a door etc. were not given or performed, then to make matters worse, at the end of the project when we were to make the final payment, they gave me a new addendums trying to charge me an additional $3885.00 after all payments and addendums were already paid, it ended with them saying they would not charge me their new made up addendums if they do not have to credit me any monies owed me and I sign off that the project is complete. By this time, I just wanted away from Solid Ground Construction. I went out of my way to accommodate them working at my home with a house sitter. Solid Ground s suggestion was to just leave the house open for them. I asked that they clean up the toilet and shower that they installed; they said it is not part of the contract. Solid Ground did have some very good workers working for them such as Greg, Rich, Derrick, and Rick. I hear many of their workers went elsewhere to work. When I questioned Solid Ground on some of their poor ratings in Home Advisor, they said it was the customer s fault, I now know differently, let this be a lesson to all that reads this. As I write this, Solid Ground has refused to respond to multiple calls, texts, and emails concerning warranty work. This makes their warranty worthless.
Response by Solid Ground Construction, Inc.: In this business, there are some customers we can never satisfy! This is one of them! I am very surprised by this response. Here are some of the false info he has put in this complaint. After writing this contract our secretary and I had over 27 addendums he wanted above the contract WE spent over 212 hours of administration time in the changes he wanted at the price he thought he should be charged. He liked our men because he manipulated them to do more work than contracted. We wrote this contract in September of 2017 and we had over 156 hours of administration before we started the project in January of 2018. He would deal with a soundproof company and come up with more ideas to change the elements. Then complained about the addendum, after 8 drawing changes and addendum's he thought we were unreasonable to charge him for permits, drawings and administration hours of 156. We said we would give him his down payment back and need to charge for the said above. We not only wrote this contract but gave him a 5-day rescission to back out. But he refused to pay us and so we wrote an addendum absorbing $ 3800.00 he thought he had come that was not part of the contract. All during this nightmare he continued to make changes, manipulated our men and complained that he wanted to have someone home while we were working since he and his wife worked. This was explained in our provisions in the contract and confirming letter to reiterate the contract. Many of his statement are false or misleading. Regarding the calls to go back for a warranty item. He contacted our secretary on her cell number to complain and want her to get someone to take care of items not covered under the warranty. By the way, this man is president of a very powerful union and is constantly in negotiation he makes his living doing it. For the record, we have absorbed as goodwill over $ 22,450.00. Our profit on an elaborate theater room, 865 square feet rec room, and a custom bathroom was surely not worth doing this job. With addendums, he wanted all the way to the end. It took us 6 months to complete! He had another electrician and sound man to do some of his work due to his changes in lights Last, his false statements about my responses to poor ratings never came up! We have our customer's great communication and over 350 jobs a year. In hindsight, you would think we would be able to avoid a customer like this.

Please be careful when dealing with this company. They falsely mislead me into believing the A/C unit at one of my properties was shot and needed replacing. Long story short, I gave them a down-payment, they said technicians would install the unit the next day I discover a month later the install wasn't completed and then learned from another HVAC guy that the unit just needed cleaning and thermostat replacement. Old unit works like a charm now. 9 months later, I had to take Solid Ground Construction to court because John Larussa the company VP wouldn't refund my money and got my settlement in court.
Response by Solid Ground Construction, Inc.: We settled this before it went to small claims in mediation. Fortunately for (consumer name withheld per their request) we did not pursue her breach of contract.. She told my tech and I that she had several HVAC people out to fix the A/C unit and it still did not work and wanted the unit replaced. We never examined the unit! We purchased the new unit and were ready to install; she changed her mind and wanted to cancel because she was selling the rental property. We gave her her money back to settle this. She is a very dishonorable individual

We took on a big project late in the summer when deciding to build an addition. Signed the contract in July with Solid Ground. When looking for hiring someone we wanted someone who could build the addition better than my original house was built, and wanted someone who would stay on the job and have it 100 percent completed before the holidays. I am extremely happy to say it is completed before the holidays and it is built better than my house! We have a large family and living through the process did have some hairy living arrangements but that is to be expected with the construction job our house entailed, homeowners need to realize that. We added two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a den, and remodeled a master bath. Everything is beautiful. John, David and Rick were wonderful, they really take pride in doing the job right, they will not take short cuts. That is what a homeowner wants, someone who is reasonable and fair to deal with, someone you can trust has the homeowners best interest and someone who wants to sign their name on the job they did. We are 100 percent happy with the addition and we are so happy it is 100 percent done. The best form of advertising is word of mouth, speaking homeowner to homeowner I would let you know to call Solid Ground.

Everyone on the job is courteous and professional. They take extreme pride in their work. They did a rubber balcony roof, railing to code, refit a door, tiling repair and re leveled a vanity, and total overhaul of front porch including hand staining wood flooring to our precise taste. We are totally blown away by this company and their integrity. They got us pricing way below any other estimates, for higher standards of work and quality of products way beyond what all our comparable a showed. They are truly exceptional. We will go to them for everything our home needs in future!
