Write a ReviewPainting & spakeling job on time....was a little dusty
ZERO STARS. Nice guy who did not successfully complete the job after being paid in full, delayed returning to correctly finish the job (multiple cancellations) for a week, then stopped responding to all texts and calls altogether. All totaled I went 12 days without any heat, and 18 days with a steam boiler that runs but does not shut off, requiring me to manually switch the basement boiler on when I need heat and then manually switch it off 20 - 30 minutes later. This went on every day for 18 days, including through the polar vortex which required me to cancel all plans for two days and stay home to manually operate the boiler to prevent the pipes from freezing In retrospect. yellow flags - if not red flags were: Arriving in vehicle that contained no parts or materials (requiring them to make trips to home depot); Generic invoices without letterhead; No business card (despite multiple requests); payments in Cash only. I am a reasonable person and understand that sometimes there may be a conflict or issue could cause minor delays, but to stop answering my calls and texts is inexcusable. Details: Sun. 1/15 - No heat. Contacted Home Advisor. YC Mechanical was the first to call. Came out on the emergency call that day. Could not get parts on Sunday Paid $300 CASH Mon 1/16 - Returned and replaced ignitor, did not solve the issue. Then determined it was a gas pump. Could not find the part. They had to order. Paid $495 CASH Fri 1/20 - Returned with the gas pump. It was the incorrect part. They did more research, determined the correct part #, and asked me to order it. Which I did ($824) Fri 1/27 - Returned and spent the day installing the gas pump I had purchased. Boiler running by 5 PM. Paid $595 CASH. At 8:15 PM I noticed it was very hot and determined the thermostat was not functioning. I had to manually turn off the boiler. Contacted Yves and informed him, and he scheduled for Tuesday to return and get the thermostat running. Tues 1/31 - received a text that they had an emergency and had to reschedule for Thurs 2/2 bet. 9:30 - 10 AM Thurs 2/2 - Did not show up. I texted as to the status and was told the tech had Covid, but he would come Sunday 2/5 the latest Sat. 2/4 - Texted for an update. Said he could not reach his man. I asked him to keep me updated Sun 2/5 - After not hearing anything, I contacted Yves he said he was still unable to reach his tech. I asked about his other tech, and was told he was on vacation. He said he would get back to me to confirm if he will come the following day (2/6). He did not. And that was the last I heard from him. Mon 2/6 - Texted and called throughout the day. No response Tues 2/7 - Texted and called throughout the day. No response Wed 2/8 - My final text urging him to do the right thing and honor his obligations as a service contractor, and advising if I did not hear back I would have no choice but to pursue alternate options, including hiring another contractor to complete the job, and whose cost he would be responsible for. He never replied. My boiler is still not functioning properly. Thurs 2/8 - started complaint process with Home Advisor. They reached out to Yves requesting he tech out to customer to resolve. As of 2/15, I have received no communication from Yves or YC Mechanical. 2/14 hired another contractor to resolve my heat issue. After investigation and diagnosis he found wiring was incorrectly installed and one burner pipe was installed upside down, causing wires to pilot assembly to burn off. Total cost $832. I will be pursuing compensation from YC Mechanical for my additional expenses, with the assistance of Home Advisor.
