"Not often is service delivered perfectly so I need to call out Steve at Outdoor Xscapes. Every step of the process was perfect. From the initial discussion he was open and transparent about what would be functional, look best, and pricing. Once he had the map and design, he shared an itemized list of what he recommended, and if we removed anything to stay within our budget, there was no pushback or shady pricing changes. When it came time for the work to be done his team was professional and fast. Our entire backyard was transformed from desert to lush plants and grass within 4 days. As we had questions later on care Steve was always quick to answer and even stop by a few times. He was recommended by our best friends down the street for the very same reasons. We would highly recommend him. Great guy, great work."

"Unfortunately, After doing a great job redoing landscaping in our back yard I have been unable to get a return call or email to come back to fix an issue with new turf Amadeus placed. I have tried for 3 months to have him come back to fix a noticeable gap between 2 sections but he has not returned my calls or emails. If he would fix this issue I would have given him 5 stars."

"Whereas I like the carpet and flooring, the new baseboards were painted (not a good job) by an unlicensed contractor they subcontracted with. They did credit me $100 however, I was stuck with the mess. We had called after we signed the contract and asked to replace the baseboards in the room that they put the new carpet in. They did not follow through and said we never called to add that to the order. Being out of town during installation, we had no idea things were not going exactly as we planned. I feel the owner and staff are rather condescending. They had an excuse for everything. It was a frustrating experience."

"Ran wire for sound system through walls and attic. Did a great job and for a price no one could beat. Also installed several extra outlets for us and access panel for our Jacuzzi tub."

"Could not recommend more! We had a rough time with past attempts at having our backyard redone and Bless Tierra exceeded our expectations. Great communication, beautiful execution, and they've even made a point to follow up with us multiple times to ensure everything is still going well. They were a delight to work with and would work with them again in a heartbeat if needed down the road! For those interested in what we had done, they installed a paver patio, an irrigation system (and fixed our old front yard irrigation, installed turf, and rock beds with a variety of plants."

"Tim responded to my request for a quote almost immediately. He came the next day, brought samples, measured and gave a quote for the work. There was only one other contractor that responded to my request for a quote. Tim is a very nice young man, is knowledgeable about the product he sells, and provided a quote that was acceptable. The job was scheduled and work began as promised, and I am delighted. They moved all of the edging, and when the grass was installed replaced it, and it all looks beautiful. Thank you Tim, Luise, Mike and the rest of the crew that worked so hard to complete the project, you truly left my yard twice as nice!"

"The initial introduction to Alan was great. He was very attentive and quick to respond. However, we had a $25K calculation mistake on the measurement of the space to be paved. Alan did give us a discount to help offset the mistake, but it was a mistake that took funds away from additional work planned. The pavers did came out looking great and we decided to give Alan a second chance with phase 2 of the effort. Unfortunately, that is where everything has fallen apart. There was an issue with product delivery that was not properly coordinated and caused an accident. Since then Alan has been unresponsive to calls, unresponsive or slow on text messages, makes a commitment and does not come through. We have given him $7K out an $11K project and we cannot get him to complete the work. I would like to be able to write a better review, but we’re talking about issues that are simple coordination and communication. We certainly expected better. This is a simple job and one we expected to have completed before monsoon season started. This now forces us to take action to make this right."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Higley, AZ

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
