"1st project: They did not purchase garage doors with key locks (as I asked)and did not use proper rubber gasket on bottom of door so that there were no gaps. These garages were old and crooked. I hired someone else to finish the work. 2nd project: Removed door and repositioned on another wall where there was set of steps to outside. Installed door but did not do adjustment and repair on the stairs. because they were promised to another job. They left my job for few days and promised to return to finish the stairs and suggested I hold back some money until then.($500) However, when he returned he wanted $2500 more to make the exterior staircase "to code"!! He knew the circumstances of this job upon the original bid. There is not $2500 "extra" dollars in the budget. I asked that he put the window back but he wanted to charge me again to do that. Now I am left with a door to a dangerous side steps. Was this ethical? Also I had to call several times to remove the debris including wire screen used to surround the railing. He doubted it was his but I assured him it was original to the deck. That was in 2015/2016 and I do not know if his current circumstances and or if the employees have changed. However, this issue still remains and done with the owner."

"We called Machen for an estimate to tear off our old roof on our house and detached garage. They were very responsive and Jodi even came out on a Saturday to give us an estimate. He was very knowledgeable regarding the materials and products we needed, and we were impressed that he actually climbed the roof to take all of the measurements, where other contractors we had contacted did not. The estimate we received was fair considering that the roof deck would need wrapped and the amount of ice guard we needed. Jodi and his team were on time every day and got right to work. They took their time on the job and were very conscientious about the work performed to ensure it was done correctly. Jodi takes a lot of pride in ensuring the job site remains neat and takes a lot of care to ensure they thoroughly clean up before leaving for the day. We ran into heavy rain halfway through the project and Jodi even came out on the weekend to ensure that the roof was water tight before the rain hit. The new roof looks great and we are very pleased with the end result!"

"What started out as a simple request for mowing the lawn, turned into a total yard clean up/landscaping. The property itself is very large and had not been properly maintained for at least 5 years. Needless to say, all hedges, bushes, and areas that were once mowed were at least waist high or taller. Within one week - several trips - Devon - the owner of the company had everything under control. It was very important to me since I don't live at the property and live in a different state, that all concerns were addressed. Truth be told, I am a perfectionist and have very high expectations. Not only did Devon take before pictures for me - all angles of the yard, but also followed up with after pictures to show the work that had been completed. Beautiful work! In addition, Devon is a great communicator. He lets you know the status of the work and is always prompt with returning calls - very responsive! With all of this outstanding service, I was expecting a steep price. I was pleasantly surprised with the pricing and I'm here to tell you that this company is the most reasonably priced in the area. "Initiall call returned in one day  and service was completed as promised.  crew of carpenters was excellent and fun to have working... certainly saved us  from a lot of labor that we were not quite willing to do ourselves.

UPDATE-6/6/15:

We used this company in the past for a roofing job that has since gone wrong, without appropriate follow-up or resolution from Bazell Maintenance & Remodeling. The door portion of the job in this review was originally very good, but as of now, you can hardly get the door open without yanking the knob off. I have yet to receive any resolution on this issue, either."

"We did get several estimates and felt his price was in line with others we talked to. His work was well done and he was a considerate contractor trying his best to keep the mess down which is difficult to do when installing and finishing drywall. Overall it did take a bit longer than he expected but he worked around our schedule so we have no complaints at all. Our ceilings look great and we would hire him again in a heartbeat."
