"JT’s Home Repair did such a wonderful job on my home. Soffit repair, facia replacement, pillar replacement, and repair, Back porch, re-screened and replacement of rotted board due to water. And termite damage. Entire house repainted, including brick. Gutters added. When I called for an estimate, James answered on the second ring and came the same day to assess the repair work. He stayed in contact with me over the next week and came A couple more times for additional measuring and planning. He broke down the cost of each additional repair so I could prioritize and budget. For a project this big that is extremely helpful and necessary. I am already dreaming about what I can do to my kitchen with JT’s Home Repair for our next project. Thank you, everyone on the team."

"The price was fair and they were able to start almost immediately. Asked the installer multiple times to cover his work area as to not scratch our new wood floors. Of course, he scratched the floors in multiple places. Attempted to contact the owner and he was non responsive on the issue. The unit was installed in September, come October and need to turn the heat on for the first time and there was loud clanging and metal noises. Called to have someone from this company service the unit on Friday afternoon and was told that “it isn’t that cold that it would be Monday before we could look at it” (it was 40 degrees and this is a BRAND NEW unit). Brought up that had we went with a larger company they would send someone out and they do not work after hours or weekends and was basically told you get what you pay for. I would not use this company again in the future. Will probably regret making this post when we need service again in the future."

"Randy answered his phone the first time I called him, and came out and looked at the job we wanted done by the end of that same day, which was adding a 24 ft. X 12 ft. metal roof over half of our deck and gave me a verbal estimate the same day. We were very pleased with the work they done. Everything was built with heavy duty materials, made to last. They showed up when they said they would, and got the job done in the amount of time he said it would take. They even worked in the rain for a while the last day to get it done on time. Carl and his crew were very professional and polite, and cleaned everything up at the end of each day. We may have a few more projects in the future, and will definitely call on them again."

"The work really took a long time, they have to take all the cabinets down and bring them to their shop, I originally wanted it done before Christmas but they weren't able to finish and got the cabinets after the holidays had gone. But the laying of the tile for the bathroom was very well done and they did a very good on the tile work. I give an "A" Rating for the tile floor installation."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Sweet Home, AR

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
