A Health and Safety Update for Homeowners

A Letter to Our Customers

We know this is a challenging time for everyone. Your well-being and safety — and the safety and well-being of our home service professionals — is our top priority. As the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to be top of mind, our hearts go out to everyone impacted.

We wanted to share some recommendations to help you stay healthy and protected at home. Even as we’re doing our part to practice social distancing, our homes will still require care and maintenance — particularly as we’re spending more of our time in them. Pipes will still need fixing, heating and cooling systems will still need servicing, and lawns will still need mowing. And when they do, we want you to feel comfortable and confident in enlisting the help of our trusted local pros.

As you continue to care and maintain your homes right now, we encourage you to:

Continue to support local home pros:
Many service professionals are small local businesses — and are feeling impacts at this time. While many states and cities have enacted orders regulating business operations, service providers including plumbers, exterminators, electricians and the like are still ready and able to provide essential services at your home. Where possible, consider home projects that require little or no direct contact, like exterior projects. These low contact projects are great things to tackle as we head into spring and, if pros have done good work for you on past projects, consider giving their business a boost with good ratings and reviews.

Use tech to connect:
Minimize contact by using the HomeAdvisor app or text and video messaging to connect with pros, discuss project details, and share project photos.

Combine projects:
If you’re hiring a pro for one project, see if they can tackle other pressing tasks on your to-do list at the same time.

Use digital payment tools:
Pay your pro through a secure digital payment solution to avoid the physical handling of cash, checks and credit cards. Check out the HomeAdvisor App for our new mobile payment tool.

Sanitize before and after work:
Both you and your pro should take careful steps to clean and sanitize before, during and after in-home services. In particular, be sure to disinfect the expected work area and commonly touched surfaces, such as doorknobs and light switches, in accordance with CDC guidance. And, don’t be afraid to ask your pro to wear protective gear.

Look ahead:
Think ahead to what’s next on your to-do list. You can use HomeAdvisor to start planning and budgeting for your next home project. Check out our cost guide and consult with pros when you’re ready.

Rest assured that we’re providing our pros with similar recommendations. And, in the days to come, we’ll continue to share vital information to help you navigate this difficult time. We take your safety and well-being seriously, and we remain wholly committed to connecting you with trusted pros to keep your home in good working order.

Our homes are deeply important spaces. We’re honored to help as you continue to care for yours.
