"Neil has been great to work with. He took my ideas and was able to design the addition we were looking for and has done a great job with construction as well."

"I hired Mark (Ketchen Building & Remodeling) after another contractor left with the job barely started. Mark rebuilt an outside pool shower that had rotted. His crew installed a cement block and river rock flooring; replaced the pool house rotted threshold and corner board. The new material I requested was cedar and it came out a work of art! The crew always left the site neat and my property respected at the end of every day's work. Mark is knowledgeable, friendly, easy to work with and thoughtful about creating the best outcome. While he was working here, I noticed that some roof shingles had come up on the garage and asked him to address that issue which he did and secured them. I appreciated his company's work ethic and timelines in completing the project. S Taylor Damon"

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
