"

John repaired some water damaged ceilings in my house a month ago.  The job was fairly extensive and needed the plaster to match the swirl pattern in the rest of the house.  He did a very good job for me and kept the place clean by sealing off the area with plastic sheeting and covering the entire hardwood floor with heavy paper.  The job took two people two days and cost $1,500.

Since John worked out so well, I brought him back for another smaller plastering job after a plumber had finished repairing some pipes for me.  He repaired some areas that had severe water damage and needed the old plaster cut out and replaced.  The job took two people 3/4 of a day and cost $550.  He knew exactly what to do, did good work, and cleaned up after himself.  I am an engineer who has contracted many private contractors to rebuild an renovate several homes that I have lived in over the years and can say with no reservations that John is top quality at a good price.

"John gave me an estimate over the summer after letting me know his schedule wasn't open until fall. After looking at the sagging plaster ceilings in our 1920s house, he recommended covering with drywall, and he did the work in December. John and his colleague did two ceilings in 4 days (about 700 square feet total) and they are a huge improvement. We're already planning to hire him again!"

"From the initial phone call, returned the same afternoon when I had initially left him a message, Bertie was amazingly honest, professional and understanding.  Towards the end of the SAME day that I called him, he came by to look the job over and then called me with an estimate the next day!
Bertie did not balk at the prospect of working on an old house and badly-damaged ceiling.  In fact, even before getting the job, he explained things about the methods that had been used and what had happened over the years to create the conditions we had now.  He was obviously incredibly knowledgeable, AND, not looking askance at the small but possibly frustrating job we needed.
We liked Bertie and accepted his offer almost immediately after getting it.  It seemed fair and he said he could do it within the time frame we needed.  A grand piano needed to be moved out of the room and stored, and we had to do the things needed in the room in a certain very specific order.
Today, the day of the work, Bertie arrived at 7:15 (he had said around 7:30) and very quietly and calmly covered all the surfaces, the entry way to the room, etc.  He worked alone and I thought that was pretty impressive to be able to get those drywall boards in the right place and affixing them himself.  It was obvious that he was an extremely skilled craftsman.
I had to go out for a while and returned home in the late afternoon to the job completely done.  The skimcoat looked AMAZING, smooth and flawless.  No one could have known what was there before!  My husband, who has done much of the work on our house and has difficulty letting someone else do the work, was super-impressed by how wonderful it looked and how easeful it all seemed!  Also, the room and surrounding area was left completely clean and dustfree.
Before Bertie left, he and my husband had a long talk about working on old houses and about all the obstacles you encounter. Bertie is passionate about what he does, very personable, but all business when he comes to doing the actual work.
I ended up walking around my house looking at other areas that need Bertie's magic touch, because it will now be possible to get my husband to agree that he doesn't have to do all the work himself --  that there is someone who will come into our old house and do a great job!!

"I hired these guys to repair drywall/plaster one of my walls. The response time was excellent and the they always showed up on time. Always cleaned up after themselves as well. 4 stars because they did not do a good job on the part of the wall around my outlet. The outlet was left too deep in the wall which was not how it was before the project. I was told I would have to fix this myself or hire someone else.."

FAQs for drywall and plastering projects in Quincy, MA

Load-bearing walls support the weight of your home's structure, including floors, roofs, and other building components. Non-load-bearing walls, on the other hand, serve only as partitions or room dividers. All exterior walls are typically load-bearing, even if they have design features like bump-outs or large glass panels. These walls need precise construction to ensure your home's structural integrity.

Removing a wall costs anywhere from $300 to $10,000 , depending on the size and whether it's load-bearing. Removing load-bearing walls is a more labor-intensive process and typically costs more. To get an accurate estimate for your project, consult a local contractor with the specifics of your wall.

Yes, there are other projects you can tackle at the same time when building a wall. Upgrading to energy-efficient windows or doors can enhance your home’s sustainability and can be integrated into the wall construction process. You might also consider removing existing walls to create an open-concept layout or building a home addition for extra space. Coordinating multiple projects can be cost-effective and streamline your renovation timeline. Discuss your goals with a contractor to help you plan effectively and maximize the benefits of your renovation.

The cost to build a partition wall varies depending on the size and type you choose. Half walls that don't reach the ceiling cost about $10 to $20 per linear foot . Full partition walls made with drywall may cost more due to additional materials and labor. Prices for accordion or panel walls vary widely based on materials and design. Factors like electrical work, insulation, and finishes will also influence your total cost.

Framing is the backbone of wall construction, creating a secure structure that supports everything else. Quality framing ensures that studs, electrical wiring, and plumbing are properly integrated into your home's design. A professional installer uses reliable materials like wood or metal to build a framework that meets building codes and ensures your wall is durable and safe.
