1-800 Plumber + Air of Raleigh

Work was done well and on time. My wife had to point out that the drain valve on the new hot water heater was cracked so that a hose couldn't be attached. Once it was pointed out the valve was replaced. OK. When I first called I asked if I could get someone out to repair existing heater because it didnt get very hot anymore and there was an error code for a faulty temp sensor. Was told, no problem. I asked about cost and was told it was free. When they arrived the plumber lit the pilot light, said it is working but will not get hotter. Told me they don't repair water heaters unless still under warranty so all he could do was quote a nnew system unless I wanted to order repair parts and pay them to come back and install the. No warranty on repairs. Then the office called and said the plumber should have told me there would be a $108 charge before he lit the pilot ligt. He hadn't. They tried to talk me into paying this. Ultimately they replaced the water heater but I felt like the whole pitch of a free estimate to repair was disingenuous at best.

The only reason I chose to use this company, was because it was recommended on Angi's List. Next time, I will go to the Better Business Bureau list. Service person arrived 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier than his scheduled time of 2 hour window my appointment was set for. I was not at home yet, so he called me to announce his arrival. I had to call the office to get this taken care of and he did return at the designated appointment time. The service man started out assessing the repair. His first statement was "This is definitely going to be a costly job." He then asked if I wanted him to work up a quote. I told him I had no choice. After he gave me the quote, he asked if I wanted him to do the repair. Again I told him I had no choice. At this time he asked how I would be paying. When I stated a charge card, he informed me that there would be an additional 3 % of the bill, charge added to the quoted price. I asked about a senior discount which he said they did give and i would be $50.00 deducted from the bill. A senior discount was never mentioned until I asked about it !!! I wondered why this, and the charge for using a credit card was never mentioned before this time. I feel this should have been disclosed when I first called about making an appointment.. The service person was very friendly and polite, He had a a person with him that he was training, but he never introduced him or himself, or explained that this person was new and training with him. I got the technicians name off his name tag. The training man had no name tag or ID. I finally asked who he was. While they were here another man, without ID tag showed up, he was just a coworker. He stopped by to work out some after work activities that they were going to be doing. He never knocked, but just walked into my home unannounced. They did not do a good job of cleaning up behind themselves. I found pieces of the old materials (the metal elbow they had to cut, part of the metal sink drain and another part I didn't recognize) that they cut or removed to put in the new piping under my kitchen sink and new sink drain and basket. They discovered a clog in the pipe in the wall they said, which they unclogged at a charge. I felt their prices were high but I had no choice but to have the repair done. I couldn't use my kitchen sink at all, therefore my kitchen was out of order and had been for 3 days. So I couldn't wait for another company to come quote a price to compare or have take care of the repair. I had also planned to have a dripping cold water faucet repaired. When I was informed it would be $250.00 to repair, I declined the repair and will work something else out. That price was way out of range for what had to be done. The reason I had this company come out for a quote was that they DID NOT have a service call charge ! All the other companies I contacted had a charge just to come to the house. One was $109.00, another $125.00. This was in addition to the cost of the repair. I don't know that I would recommend this company to friends or colleges. I would definitely look at other options for myself, like small independent plumbers verses a big plumbing company. I definitely will establish myself with an independent plumber before I need one in the future.

Roy gave me a straight up estimate for the job of hot water heater and installation. Entire process was only a few hours. My best expectations were met by 1-800 plumber and air of Raleigh. The company is fair with pricing (no gouging) and sending a master plumber to do the job. David B.

Roy did a great job. Took a few days to complete, but love the end result.

Dalton was on time, extremely helpful. He had to come back to install the faucet which maybe took 45 minutes to an hour. The new faucet looks so much better. I would use Dalton again.
