Darin was enthusiastic during the bidding process and very pleasant to talk to. The project was to remove a courtyard wall at my house that had been blown over by a recent storm and replace it with a short 5 wall using the existing brick. Cleanup started promptly but unfortunately was not completed and pile blocking driveway remains. The job did not start well as he was asking to borrow tools the first day. He started laying the wall but not in any conventional manner. No trowels, etc. After a day the 5 new wall laid to a height of about my son stopped by to check on the job and found the wall already 1 out of plumb in both directions, the 3/8 head joints were closer to 1 1/2 in many locations. More importantly the double wall had been laid to wide and the rollock brick cap would not fit so it all needed tore out. At this point Darin left the job and never returned. He has ignored all messages. So we need to not only do the original cleanup ourselves but also clean up messes he has left on the property. His bid was at the very top of the range for this type of brick work, but he promised to do an exceptional job. Unfortunately, he has already been paid $2,500 out of the $4,000 and we will have to take him to court.
