I started searching for a door replacement on my side door and a new lock on my front door October 15th. I was contacted via e-mail (through Angi's) by 3D Elite Construction. He wanted to set up an appointment for Wednesday morning. That wasn't convenient for me, so he suggested Thursday morning at 9:00. I agreed. By 10:00, He did not show, did not call, so I called him. He said he was running behind, and that he was about a 20 minute drive away from me. barely looked to see what needed done. I asked him if he was going to measure it. He said "No, it's a 32". Then, I showed him the front door, he said all it needed was a new lock and that he wouldn't charge me labor for that. I asked him about the side trim, were some would was chipped by the latch. He said that it only needed wood putty. Originally he quoted a price of $1453.39 but forgot to add in the cost of the new doorknob ($141). I thought that was high, but he argued that what he was charging was in the middle. We discussed when the project would start, I was willing to wait until the following week. The side door had been in that condition for 2 years, and it was not an emergency. I probably would have checked other places, given time. He insisted that he could finish the job that day. (Thursday, Oct.17), So I gave him a check for $1594.39). He said he would be back in an hour. (He said his name was Luch(?), by the way). Two hours later, two guys show up. They took the door off the side and then realized they had the wrong door. They left the door off for another two hours while they went and got the right door (30" is what I needed). They stayed for a few hours and worked until they got the new door on, about 2 1/2 hours. Then they left. They didn't touch the front door because apparently they had to order the knob. Friday, October 18th, Luch(?) contacted me by phone and said he needed to come over and take pictures to make sure he got the right size latch for the front. By this point, I noticed there were big gaps around the side door. He said they weren't able to finish the side door the prior day, When he came to my house he started telling me he had to "modify" the job, because I needed door jambs for both doors! I told him I already felt he overcharged me in the first place, (BTW one of his men took a 20 minute bathroom break in my bathroom when they were installing the door). He stated he was "doing me a favor" by starting the job Thursday. (I did not need it Thursday. ) and that his men had spent a lot of time on the project. I told him it wasn't my fault they got the wrong door and that was 2 hours. He said it wasn't his either. After much back and forth, I wrote him another check for $864, and told him I wasn't giving him anymore, and that I wanted the complete job done. I also asked for a detailed invoice which he agreed to (including receipts), I have yet to receive them. , He said he could come back Monday, October 21, because the lock would be in, and that he would have the side door finished. I told him I was available Tuesday, October 22nd. He said that was o.k. and that he would be here at 10:00 a.m. At 11:25, I called him and asked him where he was. He told me at Lowe's he was trying to get my lock and that's why he was so late.He said it didn't look like the lock was going to happen todaI asked him about the side door, he said he would try to get them out . (This is today.). I said call me back and let me know when, because I don't won't to waste my whole day again. Then, I thought about it and have decided I've had enough of this guy. He's way overpriced, the work wasn't complete. He hasn't done what he said he was going to do (invoice, complete job when he said, meet at times he set up.). I had enough. I called him back and told him not to bother sending people over, and to give me the money from my second check back. He told me it was non-refundable. I told him that I would be suing him and writing a bad review. Then, I contacted Angi's. I realize I have to pay him for the work he has done (even if I think he overcharged), but I feel I should be refunded $864 for the labor and parts he did not perform, plus $141 for the door lock that I paid for with the first check. ( I did not receive that either).
