Started the project with a subcontractor who did not know what he was doing. It took 4 months to complete the job that should have taken no more than2 weeks. They left the trash trailer in the yard for another 3 months at least. The finished product is ok.

I see where Five Star lost their HomeAdvisor recommendation. Good! Caveat Emptor! We had nothing but problems with these guys ranging from: quality (lack of) of workmanship, scheduling, smart ass customer service rep, and value.

5 Star was to replace 5 windows and a patio door. Did not meet installation date. Did not perform full replacement as quoted (price adjusted). Different crew each day. Did not show all days. Work quality poorest I've seen - missing caulk, exposed bare wood, damage to existing siding, did not replace all interior trim, trim with rot not replaced, sill scabbed together. Have not received installation warranty.

If you want total unprofessional behavior, absolutely no communication and a total lack of responsibility or reliability, this company might be a good fit. If you must hire this company, read the contract carefully and be sure there is a clearly stated completion date and termination options. I made the mistake of contracting with 5 Star Construction to have a new front door installed on October 3, 2018. Installation was verbally promised before Thanksgiving holiday, contract had 4-8 weeks penciled in. A 50% down payment was paid when the contract was signed. 4 weeks later (after no contact from the company) I emailed asking for an update and installation schedule. At 8 weeks, I called and the company owner said he would get back to me later that evening. 4 days later, I talked to someone else who said the door had been damaged and had to be re-ordered and would get back to me with a new date. 4 days after that (still with no contact), I called and was hung up on. Finally, after filing a BBB complaint, they returned a call but insisted the contract only estimated the completion date and they could not be help liable. Rather than taking them to court, I let them install the door but the install crew left with the electronic door locks non-functioning. Got a hold of Jacob, who (to his benefit) came out and said they would need to replace the lock and he would come out the following Monday. No show, no call no surprise. Caveat emptor.

"Thank you, Robert, for your feedback. I know that things can be frustrating especially when certain circumstances are out of our control. 5 Star Construction asked for a 50% downpayment for this particular project, especially when the product you selected cost 75% of your contract. I think that it is very difficult to give an exact completion date when we are waiting for a specially ordered door with a custom paint job and a matching storm door. We received the 1st door on time like we projected, however, it had some damage. We cannot install and will not install damaged products into customers home. Jacob re-ordered your door ASAP. Once we received your door we had it delivered and you took the door and locked the installers out of your home and wouldn?t let us install your door and didn't want to finish paying your invoiced amount for the door and the special hardware you requested. After we talked to you the next day you finally let us install the door without any complications and was installed just like we promised. We have re-ordered your electric door locks and are waiting for them to arrive - again this is out of our control. You have paid your balance in full and we thank you for being a customer of ours."

We made the decision to completely remodel our main bathroom and did not expect to get it done prior to family arriving before Christmas. We got a fair bid and work began immediately. It was completed a couple days before I needed it to. We had an issue with a sink due to a mistake by Lowe's and they still managed to adjust and complete things despite the delay from Lowe's. As for quality this was a one man job completed by Chris. Chris's work is top notch. He takes pride in his work, is reliable and respectful. He did the work efficiently but with an eye towards quality. I didn't know of this company prior to using HomeAdvisor. I was nervous hiring someone I wasn't aware of. Don't think twice. I'm a very happy customer.

They used base board trim and put it around my door .He used it about 6/7 times around my door it looks like patch work that should have been 1 piece of trim on all three side . What I talked to sale person and agreed to I did not get They did not varnish any of the wood huge nails just looks so bad they are bad , bad workman ship It cost me 279.00 for Bob Hamilton to come to my home and repair outlet box that they move and cut sheet rock to repair a switch. I took pictures and will be letting the city of Lenexa Ks see their work . I fell I have been rip ogf

BEWARE: I was provided a bid for this service. I went with 5 star and two months later I was told they could not complete the job for the estimate they provided. I put down half of the full project cost and I'm having a horrible time getting my deposit back.

We had a chance to review the numbers and scope of work that was offered to you and we simply couldn't make the money work right for you or us. I would like to thank you for coming into the office and collecting your deposit money along with a little extra for the trouble we put you through while trying to figure out if we could complete your project or not. As you left my office you expressed that you would remove this review and thanked me for helping you through this process. I wish we would have met on different circumstances and maybe someday we can do business together."

HOME ADVISER GOT ME THE NAME AND SPOKE WITH OFFICE COORDINATOR BRITNEY WHO SCHEDULED ME WITH AN ESTIMATE AND IN NO TIME HAD THE WORKERS CUSTOMIZE MY CELLAR DOORS WITH NEW LIGHT WEIGHT AND STRONG CORRUGATED METAL DOORS. A GOOD CREW AND 8 HOURS LATER I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE FINISHED PROJECT AND WOULD RECOMMEND THEM FOR FUTURE WORK ALSO. COORDINATOR BRITNEY ARRANGED FOR INVOICES AND BILLING WITH CHRIS THE OWNER WHO WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO ACCEPT TWO PAYMENTS SO AS NOT TO OVER BURDEN MY SENIOR LIVING INCOME. I had placed an order in May and by July they never contacted me. I ended up calling and leaving messages and when I finally talked to someone they apologized and came out and did the deck. The deck looks great, but communication was a big issue with me. I would recommend them, but make sure that they agree to contact you shortly afterwards.

Work was completed, but some parts of it were sloppy. They left stain on the balusters and some of the wood needed to be sanded down and was not. I called and talked to the owner and he said he would have it fixed and several days have gone by and I have had no further contact with him or his company.

signed a contract 1/31/18 to have a porch built. I cancelled the contract 06/05/18. After several tentative start dates, no supplies delivered, no marking of utilities, no phone calls and finding out the building permit hadn't been applied for til may 21,2018, I cancelled the contract. As of today 07/11/2018 I still haven't gotten my deposit back. I will be contacting the state attorney generals office.

Communication was horrible. If I didnt call them then I never got called. Did way more damage to yard than was needed. Had to have them come back twice just to make it sub par. Would not recommend at all.

When the agreement was signed there was a 4 to 6 week wait time stated in the contract. It took over 3.5 months to get the work done. When I called I was blown off. The work order developed with the sales person specified one thing. I got a call that said that that work could not be done and here was how it would be changed. I was not afforded the opportunity to say no thanks (because I'd already paid the 1/3 down at contract signing). When the work went to be done, a new door was to be installed. The door made was too wide, so modifications to my house, including removing and reinstalling siding was needed. They refused to get the right size door instead of making house modifications. THERE IS NO WAY IN WHICH I CAN RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR.
