Write a ReviewRenovating can be a daunting experience. Especially when renovating the original kitchen in a 65-year-old home. However, Giovanny, Sebastian and their team at A1 Capital Construction of Clifton, NJ surpassed my expectations with my kitchen renovation. I met with a lot of contractors prior to choosing them. Based on detailed information Giovanny gave about the project my mom said, â I feel A1 is the best fit for the job.â From start to finish they never let us down!!! They answered questions promptly. They provided a lot of assistance with choosing appliances, flooring, counter tops, and cabinets. I canâ t wait to start my next project with A1 Capital Construction of Clifton, NJ early 2024. Sincerely, A. Harris
There's not enough ways to express the amount of gratitude that I have for A1Capital Construction and their team! We had a bad experience with a prior contractor who left us with an incomplete home addition. I found A1Capital on the BBB and saw all of the rave reviews and contacted them. We were skeptical, as we had such a horrible experience, but Giovanny (owner) came to see us right away. Upon his visit he observed and assessed the mess we were left with and immediately came up with a plan to get our home completed. Within the next 2 days, he and his team showed up to begin work right away. In just under 3 weeks, they completed our home and is even better than we could have ever expected! Giovanny and his team were always in constant communication, prompt and professional. Such a breath of fresh air and a pleasure to deal with. We were scared at first, but Giovanny put all of our minds at ease immediately. My family and I are FOREVER grateful to be blessed with such an amazing contractor, and now friend. Huge thanks to Giovanny, Sebastian, Javier and the rest of the team!!
The A1 team did a great job on our major renovation project, which included a full gut/rebuild of the kitchen, two bathrooms (kitchen powder room and 2nd floor bathroom) and dining room. Giovanny was very straightforward and clear with his proposal and contract pricing. We really appreciated his payment structure for interim payments upon staged completion which was very fair and he honored that to end of punchlist. Sebastian was very accommodating with us as we went through multiple cabinet layouts, and he produced several renderings which helped us make some key design decisions. The crews did great work and brought some innovative design solutions to the table during construction (like how to deal with replacing an old stained glass window in semi-modern way). As with most construction, there were some mistakes made along the way (particularly on two days when the main foreman was not around and crews maybe didn't have enough guidance). One or two were major mistakes in my initial opinion. But much credit to A1, they corrected those mistakes within the next 2-3 days without cost to me or without major impact to schedule. Because it was a 100+ year old house, there were many unknowns at the beginning which did result in a number of change orders. But again, Giovanny was fair and transparent with the CO pricing and completion of extra work.
The team remodeled my kitchen 2+ years ago. I undertook this at the prompting of my husband as I was satisfied with the existing kitchen. However I have to tell you I am still in love with my kitchen today almost 2.5 yrs later. They had great ideas to improve the spacing in my kitchen by moving appliances around and repurposing a pantry. This also allowed us to widen and extend the length of our new counter. We now have seating on one side. Giovanni, Sebastian and Javier are awesome to work with, professional and really nice people. In addition to the kitchen they remodeled 2 bathrooms. Definitely recommend this team for any remodeling needs.
Giovanny and his team are "A1". We are thrilled with our new kitchen. Our neighbors and friends are blown away by the quality and level of detail that went into the project. The team is skillful, adaptable, timely, and transparent. All the things you would want (and would be hard pressed to come by) in a contractor. I would absolutely recommend them and would not hesitate to hire them again.
We hired Giovanny and his team to finish our basement in 2016. Overall it was a horrible experience, from many perspectives. 1. Quality: the quality was very bad. We caught a few times that they cut corner, such as using a different type of pipe that was cheaper and easier to install. My father in law happened to stay with us during the time. So he watched them constantly. One of Giovanny's team members was angry about it and had a big argument with us. He threated he would stop working if we watched him again. It's clear that they had many things to hide from the owner. 2. Delay: Giovanny didn't treat his team very well. During the project, a key team member left for better pay and it caused a few weeks of delay to our project. 3. Remaining issues: we had a few issues that we had to ask him to comeback. But Giovanny either didn't take the call or hang up the call very quickly. My basement got flooded during Hurricane IDA and I paid more than $10,000 to fix it. I thought it was just a bad event and didn't think it was related to what Giovanny did. However, the water kept coming to my basement this year. I finally decided to open up the sheetrock next to the windows completed by Giovanny and found out that they left a big crack on the foundation, right next to the window and they also sealed the windows very poorly. Unfortunately they hid it too quickly when they finished it and I didn't open the sheetrock until now. I called Giovanny 4 times and he didn't take a single one. He is very irresponsible. I wouldn't recommend A1 Capital to anyone given the poor job quality and difficulty to get them back when they mess up.

I would summarize as follows: Giovanny is trustworthy. Sebastian is customer service oriented. Javier and his crew have excellent skills. My wife is very pleased with her new kitchen. I would consult with Giovanny and Sebastian on my next home improvement project.
When my wife and I were beginning our kitchen reno, I remember reading somewhere that "you dont hire your contractor, you hire their team". Our kitchen is long completed now and my wife and I still feel so lucky to have been matched up with Javier and his guys. As a contractor, Giovanny and Sebastian did everything they needed and were supposed to do (answer your calls, make sure your plan is followed, coordinate inspections, etc.). The real standout however was Javier and his team. They were not workers, they were knowledgable craftsmen who had enough education already in them to be able to see possible problems in advance and adjust and fix them accordingly (it happened on multiple occasions and I'm so glad it did). They were willing to work with a system they had not yet worked with (Ikea cabinets/Semihandmade fronts) and still complete the project to exacting standards. All the basic stuff was covered as well, worked clean, on time, efficient. All that you expect PLUS true true professional expertise. REAL craftsmen. Cant thank them enough.
We hired Giovanni and his crew to remove a main support wall between our living room and sun porch. As well as work on our kitchen. It all started well enough, hold ups were due to our town and inspections. The wall coming down between the two rooms with the addition of the main support beam seemed to go relatively well. We later found out that the electrical work that was done was left hanging below floor boards about 5 inches from the ground [dirt] under the floor boards AND, the insulation was not completed the full length of the space. In addition, a light fixture in the hallway was just left hanging, it was never reconnected. Space, which would insulate us from the elements. We found about this a few months later when we had the front steps re-done, which we had also hired Giovanni for [but that is another story in which he just disappeared]. The windows were all replaced - but due to install issues we have since had to have Anderson Windows come out x2 due to ongoing issues, also has major issues w/ the french doors as well. All installed by Giovannis crew. We were told our floors were all white oak - they were actually red oak - so the new floor did not match the original floors so now have a dark stain, when what we had wanted light floors. Once the floors were installed then we had, and still, have issues with these floors- foot print still shows- and the floors are a mess and will need to be re-done. There is an obvious space now between the two floors, so you can see the difference between the old and the new floor. There are spaces in the kitchen where there is no anything [stain, sealer]- and I see it every-time I come up from the basement. The kick plate for my dishwasher is still missing. Our new kitchen cabinets are damaged; one has the shelf just placed inside. Another now shows where the shelf was installed on the inside [a spider-like split]. The front door which is brand new does not close properly only with much pressure and the doorknob was never secured- yes, really. They also painted 1 coat of paint. One area has already peeled, others never had the nail holes covered before they were painted. Yes, Giovanni was notified of these things- no callback, no text, nothing, NOTHING.
Heather, I must say that your statements are misleading considering the year we have had. We were able to complete many projects during 2020, which generated great reviews. These clients understood how challenging the year was and was patient enough to allow us to successfully complete their projects. As you are aware, we passed the insulation inspection on 1/17/2020 and the final electrical inspection on 02/26/2020. The final building inspection was pending since the inspector requested additional work on the steps. With your approval, we submitted the update request right away; the permit update was issued on 03/13/2020. At that point.
I cannot say enough good things about Giovanny/Sebastian and their whole crew. Just to be honest, I had a little PTSD when it came to having work done at our house because of a horrible experience with a past contractor when we initially bought our house, so it was a breath of fresh air dealing with A1. When Giovanny first came out to look at my basement he was full of ideas and literally had me a quote the next day. All the communication from start to finish was fantastic, between phone calls, emails and texts. Any concern or question I had, Giovanny and Sebastian answered immediately. We had a couple change orders that were easily accommodated and taken care of no problem. They were great with changing some things on the fly as the project went along and I had different ideas, and I'm happy that Giovanny talked me out of a few. I wanted more of an "industrial" look to the basement and he knew exactly what I was talking about. The work itself is fantastic, with every little detail taken care of, def high quality. Pricing was very good also. I only got one quote prior which was much higher, and sorta had a cost in mind and Giovanny basically hit it on the head. Overall we are extremely pleased with the whole project, we now have a basement that we can enjoy that looks awesome. I have some other projects in mind for the future and will definitely be contacting them again.
