Vinyl Siding - Repair or Partially Replace
I had one problem which prevents me from giving this firm outstanding ratings. In the process of taking down old siding and/or putting up new siding, some wiring was cut that made my porch lights work with by sensor, or work at all. I mentioned this daily to both workers and supervisors. The project manager and an electrician finally got the porch lights to work, but not by the automatic sensor. They did spend a lot of time checking the wiring, but did not acknowledge that the problem had to have been caused by the workmen. I was uncomfortable not having the sensor working and called an electric company to fix it. That cost me $500.

Handyman for Multiple Small Projects
The work itself was done very well but they very seldom came when they said they would. They didn't call to say they were not coming. What was a two-day job stretched into over two weeks.

Faucets, Fixtures and Pipes - Repair or Replace
Plus: prompt and professional estimate and flexibility when I had to reschedule. Minus: The installer tried to use flexible tubing when the scope of work called for all copper. Workmanship was sound, but somewhat sloppy.

Doors - Repair
The initial contact was great. They got someone out here very quickly to give an estimate, but as soon as they got the 75% deposit, they did not follow up with their appointments. They were three hours behind and had to reschedule the first time, the second time they just did not show up or call, and finally the third time two men came and did the job. The best thing about the company was the receptionist who tried hard to track the workers down and kept in contact with me about what she had done.

Dry-rot, Water or Pest Damage - Major Repair
Poor communicator. While ultimately did a good job, had incredible problems contacting main office after I hired them. Job wasn't finished on schedule; didn't show up when promised. Yet, quality of work was very good. If you hire them, make sure you spell out expectations and penalties for missing those.

Window Frame - Repair
Needed 5 aluminum window frame caps and a new screen. ACS's Larry W. Hostetter said this was routine for them, drafted a contract on a notepad, and took full payment up front. A crew cased 4 windows and partially cased a fifth, citing no need. Cases were unsatisfactory--gaps, incomplete coverage, unsightly caulking--not at all as Larry had described. Screens were not reinstalled. It took a complaint to SM before a crew returned...and couldn't replace the screens due to the cases! Larry cashed our check and ignores our requests to fix & finish the job.
