A&J Asphalt

Do not hire this company! I ended up hiring them to do a tar and chip driveway. My driveway is a disaster! The only reason they got .5 stars is because I couldn't give 0 stars. The email I got from them stating what they would do and the price, said they would set the grade and pack and roll the drive. They didn't do either of these things. There was never a roller on my property. The first time they were at my house it took 9 calendar days. I didn't care how long it took as long as it was done right. It wasn't. I was left with a drive that was not uniformly covered. Some areas had little to no top layer of rock and other huge areas were 3"-7" thick. Ask any other paver, for instance Sonny's Aspahlt, and they will tell you that is not how to do a tar and chip driveway. After calling and complaining, Anthony from A & J Asphalt came back and walked the driveway with me and said he agreed there were large areas that were not done correctly. He told me he wasn't going to leave until it's right. We talked about what he was going to do, the last thing being roll the entire driveway. There was never a steel drum roller on my property. He dug up a couple large areas and within 2 hours he was gone. The next day they came back and tar and chipped those areas but still didn't pack anything. They left and I was told by one of their helpers that they would be back in the morning with more rock and liquid asphalt. They never came back and the last time I heard from them was 7/1/16. The day after they left, that night, we had a rain and most of the top layer of rock washed down the hill. Not only the top layer of rock but the water cut into the base layer leaving deep ruts. I've had 2 other pavers out here to give me a price on what it would take to fix it. I initially told them nothing except I had a driveway that I wanted to tar and chip. Upon seeing my driveway, both of them asked me the same question, "What is this?" "Did this used to be tar and chip?". I told them it was tar and chip and was only 2 weeks old. They were shocked! I paid A & J Asphalt in full and asked for a receipt 3 times but still do not have one. This has been one broken promise after another. I don't know where the other reviews for this company on Home Advisor came from but in my opinion these guys are con-men and extremely unethical. I've hired an attorney and he told that there is not an A & J Asphalt licensed to do business in the state of Tennessee. If anyone out there doubts what I am saying, I will gladly send you pix!

They did a great job even if the rain was getting in the way.

Our driveway was horrible and now it looks very nice. They did a great job with the driveway they had to deal with. It looks better than it ever has and for a very reasonable price. we're very happy.

Anthony and his team were friendly and provided a professional service. When Anthony suggested tar and chip as an affordable alternative to concrete or even asphalt, I had no idea it would look even better for a fraction of the price of concrete. I love its beautiful, rustic look. I couldn't be happier with my new driveway.

Anthony was courteous and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain what he was going to do and he did it. My driveway was in rough shape and Anthony did a good job of sealing the cracks. I expect my 20 year old driveway to last at least another 20 years now that Anthony has sealed it. In the past I sealed it myself with products from Home Depot or Lowes. There is no comparison between do it yourself driveway sealing and having a pro do it.

The companies employees and equipment was top notch. The quality work was great, and the owner made sure I was satisfied with the work that was done which I appreciated.
