This person took my money and did not do the job!! $650 for a deposit to ?purchase materials?. Now he won?t answer me or return the money!

The pro did not showed up on the said day and they never contacted me or reached out. I dont want them too contact me now because it was already over a week and they were trapped in 4 days and I have lost my confidence. I will not recommend them to anybody.

John from AJ handymans came to my home and gave me a quote on April 18. We agreed on the pricing of $3200 that is for Deck repairs two concrete pads and installation of my kitchen countertops initially he wanted a 1600 deposit via Cash app and I told him I wasn t comfortable with that. John then proposed a solution of me sending a $625 deposit that would be for the Deck Work once they actually showed up to start the work, which should ve been on Sunday, April 26 then I would pay the remainder of the deposit for all of the work. I agree to make the $625 payment and I did so via my Discover card on April 20 he was to be to my house at 10 AM on April 26 that Sunday when he didn t show I sent a text message at 9:45 AM and said hey I just wanna confirm you re en route. I did not receive an answer an hour later at approximately 11 AM. I messaged again and said hey no one showed up. I m wondering what s going on. He responded that they had Covid that he had Covid and his crew had Covid and so he would go ahead and refund me the $625 on my Discover card and I should receive that with within 2 to 3 business days, I ve not received that refund and I ve tried to contact him twice since then and he is not responding to my messages at all.

On April 8, 2026 I went on Angi website to look for a handyman contractor. I entered my personal information to receive quotes. Johnathan Stanton from AJ's Handyman Service sent me a text wanting to provide an estimate for the job. He came later that day, looked the job over and gave me an estimate of $5,100. The contract stipulated that I would pay him half on that day for materials and I agreed. On April 12, 2026, Stanton and a helper came to the house and painted one interior wall which took 3 hours. He stated he would be back the next day to continue the work. He did not show up. I phoned him and he told me that due to an emergency he could not be there that day and would come do the work on the following day. Once again, he did not show up and did not call. On April 15, 2026, I texted him asking him when he would be showing up to do the work because I needed to know for planning. He did not respond to the text. On April 22, 2026, I called him, talked to him, he apologized for not coming and said he would make it up to me by coming the next day. He stated he had all of the materials to complete the job. He did not show up on April 23rd and he did not call. My last correspondence with him was on April 29th, by email. I explained to him in the email that I needed him to call me or text me and let me know what his plans were for finishing the job. I said that if he was not coming back he needed to provide me with a cashiers check for the amount I had paid him in advance, $2,550. He did not respond. In preparing to possibly file a small claim action, I found that there were at least 2 recent claims filed against him for the same failure to do work. These were filed in Johnson County and Hendricks County.

I needed my floors done They needed to be ripped out and replaced new ones Jonathan did wonderful work for me. My walls needed to be painted also and he got that done for me too. I said to him that I needed my house fixed up before the holidays and he was a man to his word and he got it done. I will definitely hire him again if I needed anything else done to my house the price he gave me was very negotiable. I will hired him again.
