HOMEOWNERS BEWARE!! I HAD TO FIRE VINNY, OWNER OF EDWARDS/RYAN CONSTRUCTION. So this does not come across as some unsubstantiated complaint; I fired Vinny today after many warnings and issues. He will embellish his experience, how big his company is, and how many multi-million-dollar projects he has. See specific issues below for reasons we had to terminate the project, and now he is threatening to file a suit. I tried to research him before hiring him, but unfortunately, nothing showed up online, so I am making sure that this does not happen again to anyone. UNPROFESSIONAL Argued with me repeatedly over the course of a month and even hung up on me twice. lied many times (details below). He talked down to me, assumed I did not know anything about construction, and made up lies to try to prove his point. VERY POOR PLANNING Dumpster coordination was good for the first two weeks, when there was little garbage, but now I am left with a lot of garbage on my driveway without a dumpster. Only 1 person came at a time during the first 3 weeks, 1 to 2 days only each week when he promised 4 people. When I eventually got three people, they still only came two at a time. According to his people, he hired two of them just the third week into the project, which tells me he did not have the people he claimed to have and multi-million dollar projects. He is hounding me for payment because he needs to make payroll when stages of the job are not completed. VERY POOR COMMUNICATION Not just to me but to his people, which led to me placing special orders at the last minute and delaying the project further. He told me and his people there were other workers coming in, but they ended up working by themselves (1 person) for the first 3 weeks. He would not notify me when no one was coming; I had to text or call him many times to find out if anyone was coming. VERY POOR QUALITY AND craftsmanship Staining is patchy. Not double coated and stained unevenly. Significant gaps in cladding and unevenness Did not add an entrance to the cladding to access the deck. Overused wiring and created additional costs for me. used a nail gun to mount composite cladding and risers when it should have been screws to mount expensive composite boards. Uneven steps. Per his people, he did not want to buy screws. Significant gaps between steps and risers ADDITIONAL ISSUES The job started on July 10th, and for the first 2 weeks, he sent 1 person to do the job. However, he had promised me four people and that he would complete the job in two weeks. During the first two weeks, he kept many promises that his people were coming, but either no one showed up or only one person showed up. In the period of 1 month, he personally showed up 5 times TOTAL for the first 1-2 hours of the day and then left and never returned. I had to manage his people on what needed to be done and how to do things right when it was his job to be here to supervise and instruct them. They had to redo a lot of the work some of his people had installed because he was not there to make sure things were getting done properly. Creating further delays and poor use of my time overseeing his workers (i.e., several posts had to be removed and reinstalled, creating holes on the deck). I had to teach them how to do basic landscaping wiring. He had his team cut boards on my deck, causing a lot of debris to enter my Koi pond and creating a hazard to my fish. This should have been done on the driveway like a normal contractor. I left a lot of garbage and debris on my property. I gave him notification on July 26, 2023, that if he does not complete the job by Friday, July 28th, the job will be terminated. Today is August 4th, 1 week after it should have been completed. And two weeks past the original finish date. The job is still not finished, and much of the work needs to be redone.
